I'm having a hard time understanding the difference between Social Anxiety and Avoidant Personality Disorder. Whats the difference? I never heard of AvPD till I noticed this forum but it seems to be the same as SA or part of it as I see it. Anyone with SA it seems would have to have AvPD too I would think... I don't see how you can separate the two...

AvPD is considered to be a more severe form of social phobia. I studied Abnormal Psychology last year and my lecturer claimed the two illnesses were not independent, as the chance of having AvPD and social phobia together in one person is very high.
