I've been hired for an outbound call centre for a company and I have to say it's STRESSFULL as hell!!!!!!!! We must make a sale EACH day or else, we might be fired if we don't for a week.

Getting to talk with strangers to the phone and talking to total strangers is hard enough, being there is a lot more. They are so outgoing!, some people shout loudly, "I MADE A SELL!!!! LET's go PEOPLE!!!!!" damn.

Sometimes I say to myself I'm going to quit but couple of my friends tell me to try it for a few weeks and see what happens.

But at the same time, I'm going to search for another job because I can't work in that anymore.

I hope I have the courage to stay there.

That's probably the worst job you could possibly have as someone with social anxiety!
Might be good exposure, though, if you can get through it in one piece.

A job like that is my idea of a nightmare. If you are not happy then keep searching for another job, it's not worth it being unhappy in your job.

The thing is, I'm afraid that if I change job without trying, I'll have guilt or regret of not passing throught and leaving for social phobic reason.

Why do you think guys? Should I try to stay and do it or just find another job that I'll be happy with?

And what are your jobs.

And I have to go in a couple of minutes for that nightmare Sad.

Holy shitcakes! I have an interview at a call centre place tomorrow! Now I'm worried. I was already thinking this may not be the right job for someone like me, but after reading this stuff I'm kind of scared.

Don't be man! The MOST important thing is to try. Because without trying, you don't know if you can do it or not. Give it a chance.

Obviously, the first day will be like "I want to get out of here!" (That's me!) and that's especially true for us. But take it one day at a time.

By trying, we sometimes surprise ourselves by thing we thought we couldn't do! I think that's the secret for us. And I think having a job is especially good because there's no way out! If you want money, you have to work and do the tasks assigned.

Try it, if we don't like the job, at least we tried.

I include we because I'm writing for myself too! It's my 4th day and I'm still stressed because I didn't make a sale and the manager is kind of upset. But I will try to open my mind to the possibility that it's not for me. But the experience that I will gain will be transferable and I will have a good experience in my resume.

And hey! write your experiences! Maybe we can help each other out man!

Do something to make the job entertaining. Do you have to give your real name? Look up the name of a porn star on the internet and use it as your name. Use a different voice. Make it an octave higher or lower. Use a comical accent. I mean, not to be a jerk or anything, but you couldn't do worse than no sales after 4 days. Maybe you can be less anxious if you're funnier.

Actually, I got two days of training, which means I've been on the phone for two days.

But I know what you mean; I should try some new stuff and be relaxed with my sales pitch in order for the message to get across. But the thing is, if I got enough time, I'll surely get it, but will they want to keep me? I'll surely find a way to make a sale, I'll ask for suggestions.

An hey, Carstuar, if you don't mind me asking, what's your job?

I think this is the BEST possible job you can have. Everyone keeps saying the only way to beat SA is to force yourself into scenarios which you're uncomfortable. Well this is it.

It'll force you to learn to brush off rejection. Force you to talk to strangers. Force you deal with stress. And whats the worst that can happen? You get fired. Which doesn't matter because you want to quit anyway. Why not make it a game to see how long you can stay in.

One of my best friends tried to beat his anxiety by working at a call center. All he could say about the experience was "wow it sucked", but he's working in sales for a investment bank now, so i'm thinking he learned a thing or two.

Finally, I made a sale today! I was damn happy about it! It's just the job is just SO damn repetitive!, always saying the same thing, trying to win the people over!

But I noticed something, with high struggle, comes wealth. I mean, even if I find something hard, I have to keep at it and not let go in order to succeed.
Now, If people hang up on me, I know it's not me personally, it's business, they just don't like telemarketers, that's it, there's nothing else to it.

I believe that if I had chosen a job as a security guard, It won't be challenging enough to be socially exposed and gradually get to know myself. Because that's what I'm doing, I'm gradually getting to know myself.

Right now, some friends from High school call me and I'm amazed about how I can talk with them and make jokes. It's all about confidence, and getting to do stuff you don't think you can but you do them anyway. And at the same time, have people to tell you not to quit and to encourage you to continue. It's only a temporary job anyway, I'm just in it to make money (university courses...) and then I'm out.

Well, that's my post for today and I'll keep posting stuff about my experiences.

And wooaah, you're totally right. This job is one of the most stressful thing one could have, but if I keep at it, I'll learn to manage the stress and be more sociable. And true, it's only temporary so right now, I'll make it a game.
