I noticed that quite a few people here listen to nirvana and smashing pumpkins. Maybe I'll start listening to them too.

The Pumpkins' first album Gish is amazing, so full of energy! I'd also highly recommend Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie. As for Nirvana, most people start with Nevermind, but Bleach and In Utero are great albums too. My favourite for quiet, introspective moments is their MTV Unplugged album though, it has a chillingly beautiful version of David Bowie's The Man Who Sold The World.

Opeth - I'm just starting to get into their music, I got one of their albums the other day, Ghost Reveries, they're amazing. I like most of those bands you mentioned, princess_haru. I also like Biffy Clyro, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Mogwai, Idlewild, Rage Against the Machine, Weezer, Porcupine Tree, Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd... and many other bands (too many to list here cos I'd be here all day, lol)

Hey Graeme, yeah I like a bit of Maiden, RATM, Metallica and Pink Floyd too, hehe we really do have similar taste! While I'm in recommendation mode, have you heard Opeth's Blackwater Park? It's stunning! Smile

No I haven't got Opeth's Blackwater Park album yet, princess_haru - but I will get it. I've only got their Ghost Reveries album, which is musicially amazing. I think Blackwater Park will be the next Opeth album I get - that and Damnation (I've read great reviews of that album). Oh and I'll definitely be getting Opeth's new album, Watershed

MotherWolf, I can barely understand nile's lyrics. Thats the fun part. Hearing them for the first time, you hear pretty much what you want to hear, and then seeing the difference between that and is always pretty interesting. After all of that, reading the lyrics are always very interesting, because they are pure and without music and it is more like poetry (which I enjoy). Nile's lyrics are about Egypt, and in their cd annhiliation of thr wicked, after all of the lyrics in the cd booklet or what-have-you, they explain what the song is about. They definately did their research, and the information is all fascinating and even more so when it ties into the song that they wrote for it.

Luckily, the lyrics and the explanations are on this site (theres alot). Just scroll down to ahnnhiliation of the wicked, and click on any of the songs.

Hello princess_haru! Yes, I could use some serious musical recommendations. I mean, everyone here would probably be surprised at how very little I know about music. In fact, I didn't really start listening to it until the release of Guitar Hero 2(I love those Guitar Heroes!) and that was only 2 years ago. I thought some of the music in that game sounded sweet so I figured that I should listen to more stuff like that. So yeah I'm curious to see what music folks here listen to.

Btw, princess_haru, what do you think about Iron Maiden? I only heard their songs like once or twice.

Well I'm no Maiden expert, but The Number of the Beast has some great tracks on it (Hallowed Be Thy Name, Children of the Damned, the title track etc) and Powerslave has more horn-throwing stuff like 2 Minutes to Midnight and the epic Rime of the Ancient Mariner Cool

The Cure
The Jam
Joy Division
Killing Joke
Echo and The Bunnymen
Placebo
HIM
Muse........ there's loads others, but those are my favourites!

Also, i'm really getting into classical music recently - anything from the romantic era. Rachmaninov, Chopin and Schubert are very good. Check this out, if you have a few minutes spare:

Yeah - nearly anything composed by Rachmaninov is lovely!

Try these two:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=YGRO05WcNDk&feature=related

^ Chopin's Nocturne No. 2. He wrote lots of nocturnes, but this one's my favourite!!

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=JqrYCrDspgE

^ Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1

But really i know nothing about classical music. I'm just getting into it really. It's amazing - there's so much music out there, that you have no idea exists.
