When i'm outside around people I feel like I can't walk properly. Busy roads with lots of traffic are the worst. I feel like people are staring at me and I never know what to do with my hands.. I feel like I can't control my legs as well. Anyone else have this problem? _________________ i'm a guy |

| I recall seeing a similar thread a while ago. It seems to be quite a common problem. Sometimes I have it really really badly |

I have experienced what you are talking about. I used to be so self-conscious that I actually used to tell myself...left, right in order to coordinate my steps. It seems that as I have become older, I have become less self-conscious, but it is still there. One quote I learned which I found helpful was..."To think confidently, act confidently". _________________ Worry Busters: thoughts to replace worry with peace of mind! |

Ugh yeah, sometimes when I'm really nervous I just feel like a marionette with its strings cut, flopping about awkwardly Someone at school once made a comment that my walk was "bouncy" so I became really self-conscious about it and tried to create a new walk. Over 10 years later, it's still lurking in my subconscious, making me check my reflection out in shop windows to see if I look like I'm walking strangely! Damn people and their damn comments _________________ When you're strange

Yep I know what you mean about people's comments. isn't it strange how little comments like those can have such an effect on your life? |

Yeah, they'll make a personal comment about us and then forget they ever said it, but we'll end up carrying it with us forever! Sometimes I wonder whether the people who feel the need to pull other people apart and play with their emotions are the ones who have the real social problem, not people with SA... Maybe our insecurities are a result of having to live amongst these emotionally stunted, unfeeling wankers _________________ When you're strange

Yeh i think i look weird walking and always look at the way i walk in reflections etc. and hate it. I also had someone comment years ago that i "walk like Shaggy from Scooby-Doo" and that's stuck with me for years. That person probly thought nothing of it and forgot it seconds later but it's always stuck with me. I also hate it when you're walking toward someone to say hi or whatever and they're stationary just watching you approach. I get really paranoid and self-concious.
My walk sucks! |

The funny thing is that others are probably so wrapped up in their own problems, issues, drama and insecurities that they really aren't giving us as much thought and attention as we think. I guess the reality is we aren't necessarily the center of other people's universe. While we are worrying about how they are judging us, some could be worrying about how we are judging them. From experience, I have learned that some confident-looking people in public are full of fears and securities...when you really get to know them. _________________ Worry Busters: thoughts to replace worry with peace of mind! |
