hi,
i'm 40, male & until about one month ago i had excessive underarm sweating since i was 32.
one close friend who knew of the problem mentiuoned the sweaty betty show & despite missing it i found this forum tx to google.
i've no idea what brought it on but like so many others on here it made my life very difficult, always carting around spare tshirts to wear under an oversized jumper.
during those years i tried the biggest pantie liners i could get, reams of gaffer tape, gortex & endless supplies of kitchen roll, all secreted under my clothing.
i tried the doc, every deodarant, acupuncture, homeopathy & even considered surgery but the risk of side effects put me off.
then, totally out of the blue, 4 weeks back, just as randomly as it had started, it stopped.
i can actually wear a shirt now - it feels amazing.
i do wish i could impart some knowledge as to how the problem stopped, but i'm afraid that as yet, i have none.
hopefully, if nothing else, it may add a ray of hope to some of you out there.

OMG Dale - you poor thing, I cannot believe what happened to you. Please reconsider having anything else done yet.... let your body recover from this awful treatment. As I have said before on this forum I am currently sweat free - yes even in this weather - I feel like a new woman! The drug was given for another reason, but as I was taken off it last year - my sweating came back (all over sweat!). The drug is Spirolactone please please try it first - if your doctor will give it to you. I am not a medical person so cannot be sure of effects. All I know is that I love this drug - I can actually go shopping without looking as if I have been in the local swimming baths first.

Hey bigdripper, is the drug spironolactone? If so its a pottasium sparing diuretic. How can this alleviate HH?

yes this is the one.... I am not a medical person but what I can tell you is I took it last year for about 3 months - still sweat but I can honestly say that it was reduced by 90%. I was then taken off it.... OMG it was back. I went back on the drug earlier this year and hey presto... sweating stopped again - Now I asked the cardiologist about it and he was not surprised and there is a hormone in it.. not sure which one.

I would be interested to hear if anyone else will be able to give it a go - I know not every doctor would give it but I promise its worth a try!
