I had an obscure thought about electrolysis thats used for hair removal. You insert a needle into the skin and the electrical current destroys the follicle. This is similar to iontophoresis, the only difference being electrolysis is invasive and permanent. I searched a few words on google and actually found some things! Imagine, I know it could take a long time, but for say the fingertips for example, we could do this all over the area and it may actually destroy the individual sweat glands permanently?

Before being introduced to Advanced Electrolysis, I thought that I would never be able to wear a bathing suit due to a condition called HS. HS is short for Hidradenitis a chronic disease of the apocrine sweat glands which causes chronic scarring and perforation of the axillae and groin areas. I had endured multiple operations to remove the cyst as well as rounds of antibiotics to combat this condition with no avail. I was even told by one dermatologist that skin grafting was the only option left for me. It was a true blessing when my mother introduced me to Judy Garland the owner of Advanced Electrolysis my sophomore year of college. She educated herself on my disease and took it upon herself to help me overcome this embarrassing disease. I now no longer have to fear wearing a bathing suit or have to endure surgery. Through electrolysis my sweat glands were destroyed as well as hair growth and I have no HS where electrolysis has been performed. Advanced Electrolysis changed my life. --E.H., Augusta, GA

The sweat glands themselves can be destroyed, but since they are so small and numerous, and are located deep in the skin, methods such as electrolysis (which uses electric currents to destroy the hair roots) are not very practical.

In the above case, if electrolysis can be used to destroy the sweat glands on the underarms (quite a large area), then surely this offers us hope with areas like the fingertips, or even forehead sweating?

I've actually thought about this too, seems like it could work. A clinical trial would be good...

Edit: Although don't they apply it to the hair? Targeting individual sweat glands might be hard, but I don't really know.

I would just stick it into the skin lol. Given the sweat glands seem so concentrated on the hands it could work. I'm thinking of buying a machine and trying it on my fingertips.

Already sort of being done, and already sort of had it done, Pulse radio frequencey sympathectomy see my old thread for more information
It isnt electroloysis but its radio frequecncey waves which infact is electric signals.

Yeah, though the sympathectomy destroys the sympathetic nerve, this would just destroy the sweat glands themselves.

umm i dont know if it is a good idea to destroy the sweat glands totally as we would sweat somewhere else CS, or we would turn into panting dogs and never survive the heat.

We'd never be able to destroy all the sweat glands in the hands with this method, because there's literally millions, and the needle is so small. Two thirds of the bodies sweat glands are concentrated in the hands. The idea would be to destroy a proportion of them, mainly in the fingertips which are a problem area, then use iontophoresis to take care of the area as normal.

Hi guys this is my first post here. I'm a 23 yr old male who is totally fed up of this condition ruining my life. I have HH on hands, feet and underarmsand sometime other body parts as well. I read this post by pinker and i am seriously considering getting electrolysis done, to try n destroy the sweat glands in the underarm. There really aren't that much options available where i live to deal with HH so i'm kinda limited with choices. I have even built a homemade Ionto device (got specs from Youtube.....great find) and at first it really worked. I was so happy with the results i couldn't believe it, this was the first time in ages that i felt "normal", but after a while i found that i got less effective (dont know why). It's been a while since i've done any treatments and i plan to restart treatments today as sweating is completely back to normal again. I also tried building a device for the underarms with aluminum
plates covered with sponge hooked up to a dc/ac adapter (which i thought worked on the same principles as
hand and foot device), but i think i tried it on too high of a voltage 6v and i got burned really bad. Now that my skin is healed i am so desperate that i think i'm gonna restart that as well but maybe on 3v as that didn't seem to harsh.

Alright cutting a long story short i'm a model and i dont have to say how hard trying to pursue a modeling career is with HH, so thats why i'm gonna get electrolysis done on my underarms. Thus far i think i've done a great job on concealing this problem from people i work around, as most of the time when i do a shoot or i'm on the runway i have the privilege of beeing
in air condition. I hate the idea of taking oral meds and i dont have access
to topical apps either and surgery is definitely not an option. I have tried changing diet, eating more healthy, went to docs and it seems that there is nothing to help me.

I phoned around today at different electro places and got info and pricing and what not (it's very cheap here surprisingly). As i type this long post i finally think my mind is made up and i'm going through with this. Tomorrow im gonna call again to schedule an appointment. Hope this shit works.

I also read some place that a high percentage of total body sweat glands are in the hands. The question then is why don't the hands of non-HH sufferers sweat? I can only think of 2 reasons. 1) Perhaps HH sufferers have the same number of sweat glands but larger pores (genetic?) making it easier for the body to sweat from the hands 2) Perhaps nature as part of evolution suppressed sweating from hands for obvious reasons. But HH sufferers have a chemical/hormonal thing (again genetic?) that just keeps the sweat glands in the hands to continue pumping sweat.

Wondering what you guys think of it?
