Cigarettes

Films used to make smoking appear cool. Just look at fims which have characters which smoke, James Bond being one of them, James Dean always had a cigarette hanging from his mouth, and all the gangster films. Nowdays smoking is seen in a negative light unlike when my parents were young when it was seen as the ''cool'' thing to do. I am fortunate that neither of my parents have never smoked, which for the generation they grew up in is a pretty good achievement. My parents don't drink either apart from the odd glass of wine with a meal and at Christmas. My dad's brother smoked for years but he quit years ago, his sister still smoke heavily and she has more wrinkles on her face than my grandmother has!

Saying smoking looks cool these days is akin to saying chemo is cool. Sickening.

Well it's been a while since I was 16. Maybe things have changed. I'm not saying it's cool that they make you look cool. I'm not making a value statement. It's unfortunate for children that they do. If they still do that is.
