I have really irrational fears, for instance I am terrified of tornadoes.
This fear is called Lilapsophobia, it really messes with me.
Does anyone else have anything like this?

I'm afraid of rabbits.
I'm also afraid of wooden popsicke sticks, I can hardly stand to look at them.
I have some of the most ridiculous irrational fears.
Having a fear of tornadoes actually dosen't sound irrational to me, it makes sense, so don't worry there are others out there!

Well, I live in the Midwest so during spring and Summer I'm on guard.
People really get on my case about it.
I have really freaked out before, back in '99 I was at my sister's trailer when our county was under a tornado warning.

Yeah I fear them too! I hate lightening also. I hate being alone when it is lightening outside. I go into panic mode. But when I am around someone during storms, it helps me. But yeah I am terrified of tornados. When there is a watch out for tornadoes, I am edgy all day. It is normal to be I think.

I live in a mountainous region, and am extremely aftraid of heights. I have been since about the age of six, near as I can remember. It is only with medication (Lorazepam) that I have been able to control this phobia. It also helps me whenever I have to fly on a airplane somewhere. (Thank God that doesn't happen too often). The name for my phobia is "acrophobia" (think of an acrobat). I don't know what caused it and the only thing that has ever come close to helping me is this medication. I have been ridiculed and laughed at by people who just don't understand what it's like to have a true phobia. My brother finally came to understand what it's like when he had a sudden panic attack standing near the edge of the Grand Canyon. Once he had experienced the dizziness, queasiness, jelly legs and the weird sensations such as feeling you're going to lose control of yourself and actually jump over the edge, he began to sympathize with me. I don't need to be standing near the edge of the Grand Canyon to experience my acrophobia, however. Looking out a third or fourth story window in a building will do it.

being afraid of tornadoes doesn't seem like an irrational fear (depending on where you live, I guess). I fear slugs. Yes, that's right, slugs. They're creepy! Now thats an irrational fear. And going upside-down, but according to my mom that stemmed from something that happened when I was a baby.

I knew someone once who had a phobia of bubble-wrap, she'd burst into tears if it ever came within sight and when she heard it "pop" she'd actually leg it. I personally have no weird issues with bubble wrap, bubble wrap's ace...heights though are the anti-christ, dunno if you'd call it a phobia but they scare the crap out of me! My parents are the same so it could be a genetic or learned thing maybe?

Ahh Bubble Wrap, one of the greatest things on this very planet. I could spend hours popping that stuff. Is there anything that triggered that fear? Hmm could be genetic, but being afraid of heights is one of the more common phobias.

Unless you're obsessed with it, you're fine. Being afraid of things that kill isn't really irrational... but that's just my opinion
