Good for you Closet_Rock_Star, congratulations on trying to overcome your situation!
I'm new to Edmonton, simply put I got here about a month and a half ago. I really don't like it here, but since my whole family moved out here I thought I'd give it a try. If anyone wants to chat, tell me more about the "happenings" in Edmonton, or whatever, send me a pm.
Thanks, though I wouldn't exactly say I've overcome my problem. I still have a long ways to go, though I am working hard at it, and I am now seeing a psychologist too.
As for you being new to Edmonton and not liking it, it's definitely no Paris, London, or New York (hell, it's no Vancouver for that matter), but there is a certain kind of charm to it once you get over the lack of "Big Important City" sophistication here. Underneath all that dull, flat prairie and apparent Alberta hick-dom is a certain friendliness and lack of pretention. I know it's difficult for someone with social anxiety to meet people, especially when you don't know anybody to help with the introductions and to break the ice, but people here aren't nearly as clique-ish as in other cities. We generally welcome outsiders with open arms.
I'm an artist and musician, and though the scene here is small, it's extremely tight knit, and there is a lot of good talent here waiting to be discovered. Probably has something to do with our remoteness and long winters; not a lot else to do but create. If you like live music, try seeing a local band. If that isn't your thing or you prefer your own company for now, summer is a great time to explore the river valley and the extensive trail system. I could go on.....welcome.

Hey. Any Edmontonians out there looking for someone to chat online? How does that work anyways? Where do people chat? - like, on messenger?
Although I'm originally from Manitoba, I did live in Edmonton 2 years ago. I actually like the Chuck city better than Calgary. Maybe I will move back there. Whyte Avenue rocks!
Hello everyone! I'm also in Edmonton, currently enjoying our beautiful blue sky and what I'm guessing is one of the few warm weekends that we're going to have for a while.
Feel free to message me if you would like to chat.
