New and nervous

Hey everyone, I've been diagnosed with having social phobia since 18 and I thought by now I would be better but it's still with me and I'm always frustrated about it. Also, because of my fears, I'm usually nervous about meeting people anywhere, even on the web. I've also had some negative experiences with people online and thought about giving up but I found this site, figured I'll give the web another try and hopefully meet people I can talk to...hopefully find friends because I'm tired of being alone, tired of feeling like I don't fit in anywhere. Crying or Very sad

So I've now mustered the courage to say hello and I would like to meet people here. I live in NYC and if anyone lives in the area, mabye we can meet and even if you don't live in NYC, I just want to chat with someone who understands what it feels like to have a social phobia. You can also send me an e-mail or private message here if you like. Smile

I'm glad I found this site and though I joined yesterday, I can see it's a friendly place. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all better. Btw, I forgot to mention I'm 38. I was diagnosed with social anxiety at 18 and actually I've had it since I was a kid. At the time my family didn't know what to think. They thought I had the typical shyness some children go through in school but it was more than that. I'm presently in therapy but at least here I can talk to other people who have anxiety too. Again, thanks for the warm welcome and I'll be around to chat! Very Happy

I'm 22 from Nebraska. I got diagnoised with SP when i was 14. I'm sure you'll like it here. I have had troubles with people online too, and anywhere else I get too nervous to post, but here everyone is really cool and nice. Smile

At first I thought I would be the only 30-something member here because of other groups I've been on. It's great this site has members of all ages.
