I adore the Smiths and morrisey, nowt like listening to him have a good wallow in his songs
and even better, the band is from my home city ....Manchester (so much to answer for)
*is proud*
lyrics that I love:
The Headmaster ritual
Belligerent ghouls
Run manchester schools
Spineless swines
Cemented minds
Sir leads the troops
Jealous of youth
Same old suit since 1962
He does the military two-step
Down the nape of my neck
I wanna go home
I don’t wanna stay
Give up education
As a bad mistake
Mid-week on the playing fields
Sir thwacks you on the knees
Knees you in the groin
Elbow in the face
Bruises bigger than dinner plates
I wanna go home
I don’t wanna stay
Da-da-da ...
Belligerent ghouls
Run manchester schools
Spineless bastards all ...
Sir leads the troops
Jealous of youth
Same old jokes since 1902
He does the military two-step
Down the nape of my neck
I wanna go home
I don’t want to stay
Give up life
As a bad mistake
Please excuse me from gym
I’ve got this terrible cold coming on
He grabs and devours
He kicks me in the showers
Kicks me in the showers
And he grabs and devours
I want to go home
I don’t want to stay...

I love them, some of the best, and saddest songs ever written, but beautiful.

I love this one too (get our hankies out) :
LAST NIGHT I DREAMT THAT SOMEBODY LOVED ME
Last night I dreamt
That somebody loved me
No hope, but no harm
Just another false alarm
Last night I felt
real arms around me
No hope, no harm
Just another false alarm
So, tell me how long
Before the last one ?
And tell me how long
Before the right one ?
The story is old - I KNOW
But it goes on
The story is old - I KNOW
But it goes on
Oh, GOES ON
And on
Oh, goes on
And on

I love The Smiths. I like your taste in music.
Still Ill and A Light that Never Goes Out are my favourite tunes from this band.

I love The Smiths, and alot of Morrissey's solo stuff. But as you say, when i listen to songs like 'How Soon Is Now?' and 'Heaven Knows i'm miserable now' lol it reminds me of where i am and doesnt take my mind off things like i need.
And i don't know about you, but i can't stand listening to love songs when i'm feeling down, because again they remind me of what i haven't got

ohhh..last night i dreamt that somebody loved me!! that brings back some depressing times...crying my eyeballs out of the sockets..balled up in the middle of my bed, heaving with tears and immmense pain from lonliness.
the song sends a chill through me. the first shrieking chord is like a knife through my heart. the emptiness in that song...it is probably THE most depressing song ever yet it's soo beautiful.
the smiths, i think were one of the top 10 most important groups in the world.
glad you guys have had the same experience.
i do agree with you scottish player..The smiths/morrissey should not be listened to if you are extremely depressed/lonely. now matter how tempted you are (i am sure morrissey or marr would not like this post -but trust me, i am speakjng from years of experience)
Try your best to cheer yourself up. You should listen to the smiths/morrissey when you are happy or at least semi happy!!

Oh Carebear i disagree with that. I find alot of The Smiths music to be very upbeat but lyrically it can be depressing.
But the music is the complete opposite of Morrisseys crooning.

the most depressing songs tend to be the most beautiful too. That's what makes them so depressing. They're so well crafted, they have so much power and impact when you listen to them.
