It's fantastic to hear such positive affirmations.
I too think that we need to put our faith in God to help us through this trial. I have only recently diagnosed myself with social anxiety, and I've read so many books and websites to try and understand as much as I can about SP.
It's quite remarkable that these experts have written that the ideal treatment for people such as ourselves is a combination of medication, counselling and self-help groups - yet there is no mention of faith or spirituality in there!
I am a Christian, and I view myself as quite a spiritual person, and I can't imagine trying to get through this without Him. How can people who read those passages from the bible fail to be comforted, whether they are believers or not?
I don't even think you need to necessarily believe in God either. As long as you lead some form of spiritual life perhaps including some form of meditation.
I love that old saying, 'God only gives you as much as you can handle' !
Looking forward to hearing more positive quotes. I'll try and compile a list of my personal favourites to share with you all.
Hello Garnet and LA-girl, I hope you and everyone else on here are doing good today!
"But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. For I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.
Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path. The one who recieved the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who received the seed and at once received it with joy. But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away. The one who recieved the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful. But the one who recieved the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown."Matt.13: 16-23
"This, then, is how you should pray:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed (HOLY) be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one."
For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." Matt. 6:9-15
" But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is there will your heart be also.
The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." Matt.20-24
"So do not worry saying, "what shall we eat and what shall we drink? or what shall we wear? For pagans run after these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matt. 6: 31-34
I said the other day that I would post some of my favourite passages for those moments when you need comfort or reassurance. Here it goes:
'Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you' Gen 28 v13-15
'My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.' Psalm 119 v28
'For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope' Romans 15v4
'Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!' 2 Corinthians 5 v 17
'For the Lord comforts his people and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.' Isaiah 49 v 13
And finally, my particular favourite at the moment,
'Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.' 2 Corin 1v3+4
As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, " Lord don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"
"Martha, Martha," The Lord answered, "You are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." Luke 10-38-42
Living according to the Spirit of God:
"You my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature, rather, serve one another in love. The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your nieghbor as yourself." If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by ea. other."
So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, debauchery, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy, drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you that those who live like this will not inherit the Kingdom of God."
But the fruit of the Spirit is: Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ have crucified the sinful nature with it's passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit." Galatians 5:13-25
"Then he said to them, "Suppose one of you has a friend, and he goes to him at midnight and says,"Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, because a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have nothing to set before him.
Then the one on the inside answers, "Don't bother me. The door is already locked, and my children are with me in bed. I can't get up and give you anything. I tell you, though he will not get up because he is a friend, yet because of the man's boldness he will get up and give him as much as he needs.
So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks the door will be opened.
Which of your fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!" Luke 11:5-13
"If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever--the Spirit of Truth. The world cannot acknowledge him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. Before long the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in the Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him." John 14:15-21
"All this I have spoken while still with you. But the counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:25-27
