Hi guys and gals,

just found this forum and thought I'd share my experiences with you.

I realised I had a problem 30 years ago, when aged 15 and pretty fit, I would still sweat profusely on my face and upper body when doing anything physical or doing nothing at all in hot conditions. These days, I can be doing something as simple as putting a screw in the wall, putting together a piece of furniture, washing the car, eating out or just standing in the London underground and the sweat will drip off my face when others around me will be dry. I forget the number of times people have asked me if I was OK, I recognise this now as HH but it's still a burden to bear and like others, I have avoided many situations in the past where this might occur.

Last year I discovered Probanthine, similar to Robinul I believe, a drug that dries you up and is effective for me. One or two tablets taken half an hour before the desired time seems to sort me out, best taken on an empty stomach. It's effect lasts about 3-4 hours and has side effects of dry mouth and sometimes minor compensatory sweating on my legs which isn't a problem at all.

I only use this in work related or social conditions when I want to remain 'in control'. In other circumstances I remain hot and sweaty and have come to terms with it.

HH remains the bain of my life and I wonder why I have it and wonder why I sweat in temperatures of just 10C when doing very little phyical work.

However, Probanthine has enabled me to get through the most difficult of cirumstances and makes me optimistic about the future.

I hope this is of help to others in similar circumstances.

Yes your doctor can proscribe you probanthine but if they don't have it they might give you ditropan or robinul.

As stated, available on prescription for whatever the charge is. I have hardly used it over the winter period at all, but now the hotter weather is coming, I've used them a few times though not daily. Had them in my pocket today at a stuffy meeting which could have brought it on but not needed and will do again this Friday when I travel to London for a meeting. The London Underground is a particularly nasty place if you have this condition, its hot, most and still, you sort of try to get a position near a forward window where you might get some airflow. I've spotted a few others with similar conditions as mine on the underground.

Don't know how I would cope in a truly hot country. I avoid hot countries for summer holidays for this reason which is a shame in many ways. Fortunately my 2 boys love surfing in cornwall, England and don't push me to take them to Hawaii !!

Good luck, Alina. I'm sure you boyfriend won't mind, the same as my wife and kids don't. To them I'm just a 'hot' person and I feel ok with being hot in their company. In a way it's no different to my wife feeling very cold in cold conditions whereas I don't feel the cold too much. The only difference is that I 'show' my condition to others where she doesn't.

As I sit here tonight typing this, its been about 25c today and this morning we went for a walk in the country, about 9 miles in all and up and down hill walking. After about 1 mile my face was beaded with sweat and started dripping onto my T-shirt and did as much for the next 8 miles, constant wiping helped but it kept on coming. This happens even though we walk distances up to 10 miles regularly. My wife and kids, whilst saying they were hot were showing no signs of perspiration and that is the difference. We may all have been equally as hot but I was the only one sweating. Funny thing with me is that my hands and feet don't sweat more than the average, it's just the face and head.

Anyway, didn't spoil the day, I had a really good day out with the family, I find that our boys really talk to us when you get them away into the countryside in the middle of nowhere. Things like this are so important and make me realise that HH is only a part of my life but many other aspects are so much more important (difficult to sustain sometimes, I know, but true all the same).

Alina, I look forward to receiving your card if things go well, keep your chin up and remember that the person you are within is greater than the person that shows on the outside. Those near you will understand.

oh thank you for your words ,you are right... but the difference is that when a guy sweats it doesnt look as bad as when a girl does Still, I think if my bf loves me it wont be that important to him ,if it is then probably we shouldnt be together ..actually it's easy to check this way if person is true or not ,whats the point to be with somebody when such thing like HH can dissapoint him is it? I want to marry him in future, and he wants, so hopefully he loves me and he wont pay attention to all ths stuff But still I feel that if he sees me like this I will feel so embarassed...heh

Alina, allow yourself to be embarrassed, it's an embarrasing condition. You are right to be embarrassed, but allow yourself that emotion rather than fight it. But its worse if you try to bottle it up and hide it. I've worked out already that you are a pretty fine person and that is a greater virtue than the condition that affects us all on here.

Every day can be a trial for us to pass, but concentrate on the positives and look forward to them and the negatives will diminish over time. We'll never be cured of this afliction, but with understanding we can come to terms with it. It's taken me 30 years to do so, but I'm now looking ahead rather than behind.
