Hello forum!

Well on your recommendation i'm going to get it bill-uk... I have the exact same condition as you by the sounds of it. Only facial sweating in certain situations but not much of anything else (well no more than normal).. I wish I had any other form of sweating as this is the most "in your face" (literally) form there is and has most of the social stigma attached to it of nervousness.

I am a model so it makes it even harder for me having to be scrutinised at castings and having to wear makeup at times. I was on richard and judy once with all the studio lights on in this woollen dandy outfit for a segment they were doing and richard turned attention on me so that the whole of the uk could see my sweating!! Oh, how easy it would be to turn inward with this crappy condition!

So Bill and Alina... you have another comrade in this battle... lets find a cure together! I have been looking into some eastern herbal medicines and acupuncture as I just can't see any workable developments in the western apart from what you said about probanthine Bill-UK

How much is it by the way??

If you have the money try buying some secure wipes ( topical glycopyrrolate). People have said these are very effective.

Pinker posted about topical wipes, I'v never tried them but will try to find out, better than medication if they work for you or me so well worth a look. From what I've read on here and elsewhere, Probanthine causes some people problems when taken daily. I don't. I only take it when I need it, a few times a week in hotter conditions and in problem situations.

Last night we went out with 2 friends of ours for a meal, the temperature was 27C. I took 2 probanthine tablets before we went out and I was totally dry whilst out eating in a stuffy room whilst my mate was sweating profusely. I think he must have the same condition as me but I never noticed it before.

This is not be the panacea for all but it's making my life a whole lot better so far. I cannot say that it's effects will last forever as I've only been taking it for a year.

Incidentally, last year I went to 6 acupuncture sessions for this as I will try anything. It didn;'t help this at all for me. It did make me feel more relaxed but HH for me is not a mental or nervous thing it is a physical condition. I simply get hotter than others.

Alina, yes it helps when its hot, I take 1 or 2 tablets 1/2 hour before you want to be dry, works for 3-4 hours for me.

Willyb, glad to have you around. The cost is about £6 in the UK for a prescription.

Asd I said before, medication like this should be considered after alternatives, but I've no negative reactions to mention so far.

I will find out about those wipes.. thanks pinker!

But i've never been averse to taking pills and if you do it on an event by event basis instead of daily then i'm sure the side effects are reduced and that your tolerance doesn't build up as well.

I'm just a bit sceptical about the wipes as I'm afraid it might start compensation sweating elsewhere. Does that happen?? But then again... I find that when my facial sweating starts then it creeps around my whole body (usually because of the self consciousness) so maybe if I attack the source then the wipes will work! It would be expensive wiping down from head to toe!

I don't think I am inherently a hot person like you say you are Bill as I grew up in up to 45 degree heat up until i was 18 (queenslander). But that was dry heat. I can pinpoint when my sweating started -- I was on a trip around SE Asia with that famous humidity and I found that my body just started dripping since!! In any humidity?! (obv moreso when more humid)

This sucks!

I just wikipedia-ed it and if you take it orally the absorption is up to 5%
Maybe wiping is better and more selective to that part of the body?? Or maybe its absorption is even less that orally?? I haven't actually read the spin left on the pharmacy site you gave Pinker but will try to find out more. I wonder how many wipes you can get out of one $50 kit?

Has anyone tried it?

Hi guys and gals,

just found this forum and thought I'd share my experiences with you.

I realised I had a problem 30 years ago, when aged 15 and pretty fit, I would still sweat profusely on my face and upper body when doing anything physical or doing nothing at all in hot conditions. These days, I can be doing something as simple as putting a screw in the wall, putting together a piece of furniture, washing the car, eating out or just standing in the London underground and the sweat will drip off my face when others around me will be dry. I forget the number of times people have asked me if I was OK, I recognise this now as HH but it's still a burden to bear and like others, I have avoided many situations in the past where this might occur.

Last year I discovered Probanthine, similar to Robinul I believe, a drug that dries you up and is effective for me. One or two tablets taken half an hour before the desired time seems to sort me out, best taken on an empty stomach. It's effect lasts about 3-4 hours and has side effects of dry mouth and sometimes minor compensatory sweating on my legs which isn't a problem at all.

I only use this in work related or social conditions when I want to remain 'in control'. In other circumstances I remain hot and sweaty and have come to terms with it.

HH remains the bain of my life and I wonder why I have it and wonder why I sweat in temperatures of just 10C when doing very little phyical work.

However, Probanthine has enabled me to get through the most difficult of cirumstances and makes me optimistic about the future.

I hope this is of help to others in similar circumstances.

Alina, I'm glad that this has helped you so far. I take the tablet half an hour before a problem meeting, like a work, pub or restaurant meeting and it generally works for me. I don't take it every day as that counters its effectiveness apparrently. But keep doing as you are doing and learn from how it works for you, which could be different from me.

Keeping it in perspective, today was a nightmare for me, its been 29c and we had a BBQ this afternoon in the garden. I sweated buckets, all from my face, didn;t take a tablet but my family don't care. That's me and they don't care !! Its harder when it's with friends but thats a problem for another day so deal with today and let tomorrow take care of itself!!

Hi All

I got some Secure wipes from pharmacy.ca 7 days ago. I wiped one on my forhead , face and neck after my shower in the morning(your not supposed to wash area for 4 hours after application) after lunch I went to a hot shopping center on a very warm day for Ireland (26 degrees). There was not a bead of sweat, not even a glisten. I could not get the smile off my face for days.

I went on holidays to spain 4 days ago. The ultimate test of any anti sweat treatment. A busy airport, a 4 hour dealy in Dublin due to a bomb scare, followed by 38 degrees in the shade.

Anywhere I put the wipes , there was no sweat at all. This was great, but I started to notice that I wasñ´t really sweating anywhere. I also noticed I had a slight but constant headache. Then the day before yesterday I started to feel quite dizzy. I thought maybe I was getting heat stroke due to a lack of sweating, so I looked it up but my symptoms didn´t really match. Then I looked up the active ingredient in secure wipes, glycopyrrolate. It has many side affects, not of which are dangerous, but can be unpleasant. Google it and read. Pharmacy.ca in its documents said not to ingest or wipe on broken skin which i´m pretty sure I did.

It´s not all bad news though. I did´nt put on a wipe for 36 hours and I started sweating normally in areas where I had not applied it, but remarkably in the areas where I had applied it I was still not sweating. My dizziness passed after a few hours and my headache went after about 18 hours. I put a wipe just on my forhead last night. It worked well. I am still sweating normally elsewhere and no side effects.

I think these are a great product but you hace to get the dosage right. I bought 2% wipes. Next time I will try 1% wipes. I now will also try limiting the area I put them on, and the frequency.

I hope you all find this helpfull. Try it

Hey Guys! I have cranial HH as well. Until about a year ago I thought I was just a big, sweaty guy (6'6" 270lbs.) I've been doing stand-up comedy for over three years now and it is going very well. I know how it is to feel embarrassed over this condition. On stage I have to make jokes about it in front of crowds of 200 plus but inside I wanted to scream and smash every hot light on that stage. You start sweating then you think they are thinking about it and you sweat even more and you think now they are really thinking about it and you sweat more and more!!! I can literally ring-out my handkerchief when I am through. I tried Ditropan. It worked on everything except for my head! I heard about the "secure wipes" and I'm happy to say that they're on the way. I'm speaking with a couple of surgeons here in New York about the ETS surgery but I have to admit that I am reluctant to do it after reading about some of the horror stories on this site. I feel like I have to pass this obstacle if I'm ever to really succeed.

Your Sweaty Friend In New York,
Chris
