I work in a field where u have to climb ladders often.
Sometimes ladders u bring and sometimes old garbage that will surely kill someone.
Like a chinese resturant that had ladder held to wall with a crooked nail that was almost out of the cement it was hammered to.
I also had to climb on roof and walk across a pier roof heigher then sail boat sails.
I was very afraid and did eventualy get fired over refusing to do things.
In my attempts at trying to keep my job and overcome my fear i did get better at it. I am not totaly cured yet but am noticing I can do stuff i passed on in past.
I dont believe it is irrational fear of falling people do fall and die every day in this kind of work.
When I tell guys I work with dont u worry today will be your last they tell me acting like death would be welcomed u got to die sometime.
I am afraid of heights but its true that practice will help you over come it.
I worked with a polish dare devil who survived a motorcycle accident and loves near death climbing and jumps. I wish I could be like him but again I see his scars and know he will die.
I had the same fear of heights, although I didn't let it control me as much. But climbing up something high, I'd be shaking, and my mind closing up on me. So I thought, sod it, what's the best way to face my fears...
I had a constant sick feeling on the way there, on the flight up (although, it could have been from the cute girl I went with, am undecided there ). But the second the wind catches you and you realise there is nothing below you, and just an incredible feeling...
It was awesome. And now, I can climb up on a tall rocky chair, look down from a tall window of a skyscraper - with ease.
I know it sounds out there, but I'm pretty sure it'll cure your fears.
