Hi All!
OK so I've been using secure wipes for a few months now and here is my report;
After the first week I couldn't believe it. I wiped down my forehead every day and it actually worked. I was cleaning my bathroom one day and I was sweating from my back and chest as usual but my forehead was dry. I was thinking "finally, I can go on with my life!" But since then they really never worked as good. I've even tried stopping for two weeks. Don't get me wrong .....it helps....but it's not the answer to the problem.
I have noticed some side effects such as dry mouth and problems urinating. I will continue to use them because something is better then nothing.
Sometimes I don't understand this problem. I'll be speaking in front of a group one day and I'll be wiping away the sweat and then another time I won't sweat at all. Sometimes I don't sweat until I am done speaking....weird. I was walking in the city the other day. It was cool and breezy. I was drenched. I felt like people were looking at me as if I had an illness or something.

I've also had similar experiences to you, where one day I won't sweat in the same situation where I do sweat another day. I have a working theory that it's due to my overall stress level. That's assuming that all else is equal, such as how often I'm using Drysol.

I'd suggest trying to monitor how much stress you are under due to issues regarding friends, family, work environment, temperature, exercise, nutrition, etc. I think these factors make it more or less likely for sweating to occur. Another thing is that it's good to take slow deep breaths and keep your muscles relaxed, especially the shoulders. It's not easy to lower your stress level this way, but over time it helps.

I'm trying to stop with the caffiene. Also, humidity is my worst enemy. I can be in an air conditioned room and my head will still sweat on a humid day. The weather is getting cooler which is good though today I was in a classroom that must have had the heat on. It was littlee warm and I was sweating. I couldn't wait to go on a break to get some air.

Romax,

I'm glad you reported back as I read your earlier posts with interest as you seem to have similar to me. It is the facial/head sweating that is the curse of my life and the older I get the worse it seems to get. A while ago I went a month without coffee or alchohol and it never made a difference.

Interesting to hear your report. I had been considering ordering these myself but not so sure now so thanks for the update.

I'm still using the probanthine on odd occasions and it does still work, but I'd rather not use drugs for the rest of my life. Also because I only use it sparingly, I often get caught out in difficult situations.

I recently used Anhydrol, which is one of the 15% aluminium chloride antiperspirants similar to maxim and odoban. It is primarily a roll on for underarm use but my doc suggested I try it on my forehead. It did work to an extent but I only used it for 2 days as it is very itchy and I still sweated from the head which ran down the forehead. It is also dangerous to get in the eyes so I wasn't too happy using it just above the eye.

As I've said in earlier posts, whilst the anxiety of a meeting or presentation can make it worse, I am convinced it is not the prime cause as can be seen by you sweating whilst out walking. I do similar. Last weekend I put up some shelves in the bathroom. Not particularly difficult and it wasn't particularly hot. But by the end I was dripping off the nose and chin and wasn't in the least bit anxious. Next day went to a football game. Walked the 1 mile to the pub for a prematch drink and as soon as I walked in the hot pub, the floodgates opened followed by the usual 'Are you alright' remarks.

What I would do to find a cure for this! Would be interested to hear any other ideas or successes you come across. Did you ever try the oxybutynin??

Regards, Bill

Hey Bill,
I had a similar experience with the secure wipes back when they were working. My forehead would be dry but the sweat from the top of my head would roll down over my forehead.
I also tend to stay away from any products with aluminum in it because of the Alzheimer's scare. Though it cannot be proven that it causes the disease there are unusual traces of aluminum found in the brain of the patient at the autopsy. My mom has it and that's enough for me to stay way from aluminum based products.
I have tried Oxybutynin. It will keep eveything very dry except for your head. I've heard that people with our condition have had success with Robinul. I'm going to try it soon. I've also had some success with a beta blocker called proplanolol. It helps during stress causing situations. Be well my friend.

Chris

I was going to say have either of you tried Avert tablets from pharmacy.ca? These contain glycopyrrolate which is what Robinul contains. The only problem could be the prices with it being from overseas.

I use glycopyrrolate (not as a tablet) and the only side effects I get is a dry mouth and nose for about 24 hours after use. Definitely not the same level of chronic dryness of mouth and throat as when I tried Pro banthine tablets a long time ago.

Chris,

Great then !! Just what you and I need ....

I hadn't heard about the Alzheimer link with aluminium, do you have any links for this?

I have also been using propanalol on and off for a year or more. Definitely helps on the anxiety side with certain occasions but as I said earlier, for me its heat or just minor manual exersion that causes most of my sweating problems. Have to say that its got to the stage of seriously affecting my work, career and hence life choices, that's why I went for the medication. More importantly, I have a family to rasie and support.

Pinker, thanks for the idea. I know about Avert from this and other sites. I'm sorta concerned about taking a drug that is not prescribed by my Doctor even though I read some good results about it. It uses glycopyrrolate which is the same as in the secure wipes that Romax used in is report on this thread. I had read somewhere that this has caused some people to suffer from headaches and dilated pupils, but I can't remember where I read it. My doc knew nothing about glycopyrrolate or Avert so at the moment I'm stuck on Probanthine, but you never know so thanks again.

Like someone else mentioned in a recent post, I notice you reply to many people in these forums and help them with their concerns. Cheers for that, I'm sure you make a difference to the lives of people you will never know ....

Regards and take care, Bill

Hey Bill,
Just search the words "Alzhiemer's and Aluminum" and you'll see plenty of results. How does the Probanthine work for you? I'm sorry to hear how this problem is affecting your life. I know how frustrating this condition can be at times. I often find myself online after a performance searching for some miracle cure.
I hope to be seen on television soon for my stand-up comedy but I dread the thought of a really bad sweating episode. I'll make a joke about it here and there like some other pros do but it really bothers me more than I show. I have big plans for my future but feel that this Hyperhidrosis will hold me back. It's just plain embarrassing!

Chris

Chris.

The probanthine is taken on an empty stomach and no food should be eaten for at least half an hour and that dries me up for between 3 and 4 hours of normal activity in hot conditions. It is actually quite incredible how well it does work. For the time it works it is so liberating !

I normally take one, but sometimes 2 tablets in this manner. You get the dry throat which might be a problem for you but for me its not an issue, I just drink water. But I don't take it every day, just on the worst of days when I expect a problem, like before a meeting on a hot day or travelling on the London underground. I have read that too much use makes it less effective hence I limit the use and still have many many sweaty days and occasions to bear as a result ( I actually had the sweaty forehead and scalp syndrome at the barbers today but not too bad).

Interested to hear you might be on the TV, will it be shown in the UK? I wish you well in your career and I sincerely hope you get to where you want to be despite this problem that affects us.

Bill

Hey guys I also have hyperhidrosis and mine is as extreme as they come.
On my 21st birthday i awoke with my underarms sweating and they would not stop. Then i would get hot flushes and sweat from everypart of my body including my arms and legs. Since then it has gotten worse.

Now 3 years later I sweat everyday. I'm beginning to become a hermit. I have been prescribed probanthine. 1 tablet does not work for me so i take two. On a good day I manage two tablets on a day. But on a bad I end up having to take 6 tablets (two tablets each time) Even then I still manage to sweat but only just lightly.

It has really been getting me down and I have no idea how I can get rid of this curse haha.

I suffer from dry mouth and throat and my lips have split on the corners of my mouth. Its really weird.
