If yes have you managed to make new friends and join clubs/societies? Has it changed you at all?

I went in 06/07 straight after college but I left because I didn't like the course/uni itself. If I go again I want to push myself more to get involved in stuff. Just wondering if anyone has had a positive outcome.

It was a disaster for me due to severe social anxiety, therefore I left.

starting a new year in september and yes my social anxiety is really disruptive when it comes to hanging out with people. I like the courses, but I've been too afraid to join any extra-curricular activities or clubs. I also haven't made a lot of friends, even though I've met a lot of people (mostly b/c my few friends have dragged me along with them!)

I kinda started out with the philosophy of keeping myself distracted by school and hoping the other social shit would just fall into place.... hasn't happened yet Shocked

I stayed at home and did a degree at my local college. Looking back, I regret not choosing to go away to uni, although I'm really not sure whether I would of coped if I had gone.

Starting uni for the first time in 2 months. Kinda feeling a little uneasy about it, but when I went on the open day it really helped calm my worries (after I found the right place). I remember for the first time ever not being the shy one, and actually managed to ask our student guide a question, and answered a professor's question on enzymes.

Even though I pronounced "ligase" wrongly. Rolling Eyes

I have not managed to make any real friends. I have been there since sept last year. I don't talk much to people in the class either.

Same here.and also sometimes while i'm in class i panic n i HAVE to leave.Or sometimes when i'm late for a class and everyone are in the classroom.i leave the university cause i can't enter a room where everyone is sitting!it's just too difficult.but i believe that everyone who has the chance to go to a college should do it.nothing should get in our way of living this experience Rolling Eyes

Years ago I had to leave a post-graduate course due to anxiety. Was very capable looking back but couldn't cope with it at the time. You need to be motivated by your parents. I have struggled ever since. Don't give up. I have wasted my life and now am facing the future depending on my husband. You must believe in yourselves.

Well, I've been going to my state university for 3 years now, and I've slowly started being able to chit-chat with people in classes, etc. The first year I lived alone off-campus as I was too terrified at the thought of having to live with a roommate in a dorm. So that year I was completely alone, and really never said two words to anyone. All I can say is thank God for TV.
Then I took a huge leap and moved into a dorm, which was a terrifying new experience that actually turned out fine. I've made friends w/ my roommates, though we rarely see each other. I have gotten along pretty well w/ all of my roommates so far, but haven't made any deep connections w/ anyone. I met many of my acquaintances from living in the dorms.
I have people I chat w/ for a couple minutes, but that's about it. No good friendships, nobody to hang out w/ on the weekends, so I'm still experiencing isolation which can get pretty miserable. Hopefully by the time I graduate I'll have met someone who becomes more than an acquaintance, but we'll see.
