Since exercise tends to help a lot with racing thoughts, worries, and depression. I thought I'd post this into the Treatments category. I often force myself to go jogging around the block along with performing a few basic body exercises.

For one thing it tires you out a bit, so you don't have as much energy to devote to worrying for the rest of the day. Oh, and it helps you fall asleep at night better too. Secondly, it increases your self-esteem. Makes you more fit, and makes you feel good about your will power as well as your body. It also builds endurance. Thirdly, a great distraction when you're ready to climb up the wall if only to stop your mind from thinking either "what if..." prior to an anxiety causing event or "why didn't I do this or that instead..." after the same type of event.

Also constant exercising keeps your muscles fit, which will help you a great deal later on in life when you won't be the one to injure yourself so easily when falling like other elderly can sometimes. This is definitely something to think about if there are chances that you're going to remain independent (a nice way of saying "alone" Wink ) or if you just don't want to rely on other people for a while.

Anyway, didn't mean to sound like a bible-salesman gone wrong. I was just curious what the rest of you do to stay fit. I'd like to join a martial arts class or a yoga class eventually, have any of you taken those or any exercise classes in general before? What was that like?

You can get very strong without any weights. If you search around the net you can find exercises for every muscle of the body without buying any weights. This is where I get a lot of my info http://www.rosstraining.com/ lots of free good information in the forum. Also this place is helpful http://www.beastskills.com/. I'm buying a 300 pound weight set when I get off my butt to fill out the order form. When I get the money I'm going to get Some gymnastic rings to.

Hi ash_2001,

I have taken martial arts before. As a teenager, I attained a black belt in tae kwon do/kempo. It was fun. It helped me to develop discipline, flexibility, knowledge and strength. There are numerous forms of martial arts and your experience will vary greatly depending on what form of martial arts you chose to engage in.

If you don’t like physical contact, a good form of martial arts to try is tae bo (aerobic kickboxing). If your OK with some physical contact and you want to learn numerous self defense techniques, strikes, and forms, as well as weapons training; karate (like tae kwon do or kempo) would be fun for you. Don’t take contact kickboxing or ju jit su unless your willing to take a beating.
