Good morning.

I am a new here. It looks like very good. It's great to know other have also the S.A. It makes me life difficult and different from other life. I'm young and in school, and it's difficult to go.

I read many - or some - of you write about being homeschooling. It's a surprise for me - I didn't know that you can homeschool due to the S.A., I thought it was reserved for very ill physically people or disabled... I read a bit about homeschooling and the opinions also, and I think it's both advantages and disadvantages, what do you think?

+advantages:
it may be anxiety lessening;
avoiding the big source of it and minimising the school stress (especialy about oral replies at the blackboard...);
liquidating the schoolbreaks stress (what does a S.A.-er have to do during them? unless loiter among the corridor or rather, due to S.A., sit somewhere shrinked and anxious... Sad, but not talking normally to other students!Sad );
or the school library could be somewhat helpful then...Sad. it's so hard...

-disadvantages:
it's but an serious isolation from the normal school life which can have not good psychological effects I think;
you may lose even those vestigial contacts with your colleagues/peers which is but necessary and required to make normal social skills needed in the adult life!;
the life becomes more boring too;
you spend more time at home which's healthy and mentally not good;
and you but also have much less motivation to learn alone - what about the learning effects and marks?;

And how to return later to the school?! You but probably don't want to keep homeschooling until the end of your school education, do you?!
And how to pass normal exams - where do it, not but at home?... Question

And one more great disadvantage - what the other, peers, colleagues and other people in your area will think about you!? when they find out you homeschool for no visible reason! Have you ever thought about his aspect of the homeschooling?

But I think it's an ultimate solution for very anxious S.A.-ers. What but their normal schooleducation be like in such big stress?...

Get discuss and exchange our considerations!

good bye, see you!

Hi, Smile

Welcome to the SPW. I hope you'll get here much support and it'll be nice for you. Feel free to post here.

You've probably quite a lot of right with what you've written above, you know.

Cheers!

P.S. Are you maybe from Iceland? Snaefrišur? Question

just live life in fear and go to real school. Home schooling just makes your anxiety worst after you start seeing people again.

You think so? I'm afraid it could be so then, as you wrote. But the fear is so high... it makes my school life terrible; especially the breaks, the great break for example... Sad

And also the teachers, coming regularly to your home, can atrract the peoples' and neighbors' attention, which would be also embarrassing... Rolling Eyes I thought so...

Homeschooling isn't too bad an option when things get a bit overwhelming at public school. Personally, I've taken a few of my classes online through BYU so that my day at school is shorter and more bearable. I hope this helps.

I'm homeschooled and yeah I'm not very socialable. But see, they're homeschooling groups everywhere! And, if you join enough like activities or w/e you can make friends that way. I know a lot of homeschoolers that are far from socially awkward. They may be a shy a little, but they're socialable. I'm just one of the weird fucks who doesn't join any groups or many activities because of my fear of people. Homeschoolers can also take high school courses as well as be homeschooled. So you can get socialization there as well as your groups and activities you do. I'd say homeschooling is a better option than school but it all depends on what type of person you really are.

Actually, my brother has SP as well and dealed w/ SP and perservered through 12 years of school and he's more socially anxious than I am. He can barely speak to anyone. And now he's 20 and still has this problem. So no, homeschooling doesn't make you worse off (maybe for some but not all) and going to school doesn't resolve the problem either.

i'm homeschooling until 12th grade and I'm extremely motivated by myself. And who gives a care about what people think, most people like the fact that people homeschool because it's usually a really good thing to do for their kids. And they do usually ask about socializing questions but their are some homeschoolers who are actually out of their houses more than actually public school students. For example, a girl I know is homeschooled she is 16. And does lots of extra curricular activities she does music, theatre, art, dance, and also takes like 2 courses at a high school. She starts her day at 7 am and doesn't get home til about 7-8pm at night. But this is a girl who is a big overacheiver and most homeschoolers are it seems. You can choose how you wanna be homeschooled. I personally am I girl who enjoys being at home, so I choose to do most of my subjects at home. I do art like once a week and I take some other courses that strike my interests. like right now I'm doing a web design class at adult ed. And this is my 3rd time doing it. Next year, I'm taking a logic or something class that'll lead into a programming class. Homeschooling allows alot of freedom of what you wanna do. lol i'm rambling on waaaaaaay too much! I should stop. I'm just really for homeschooling it's a great thing =) and public/private is also great. But homeschooling, I think, has a more positive outcome on a person depending on what the person is like of course. But yeah...all this crap I just said is IMHO. So don't take it the wrong way hehe =)

oh yeah one more thing. I just wanna point this out. Parents usually homeschool their children to teach them morals or religion or w/e. I did it because my mom noticed how stressed and scared I was at school. I would usually puke each morning before I went. And some parents think it's a cool thing and decide to teach their child instead of letting a school do it. There are many many reasons why people do it. Being disabled could be one, but it's usually not a big one. Because they're a lot of disabled or mentally retarded children who attend a special school instead of being homeschooled. Alright, I'm done rofl.
