I was prescribed Lorazepam (ativan) and Fluoxetine (Prozac) for social anxiety. I refuse to take an SSRI. I plan on taking the ativan before bad social situations.

My doctor said to take ".25-.5" mg as needed.

I took .5 mg and went out socially with a friend. it did nothing. I literally felt absolutely no different.

I did the same with 1 mg, and I think I could feel it, but I wasn't sure.

I did the same thing AGAIN with 2 mg, days later, and went out. I was a little tired (nothing like taking a benadryl) but still could feel my heart race, and was still pretty anxious, although I do think it helped.

I thought benzos were like miracle drugs for anxiety? From what I've heard at least. This is my first time taking one.

Alcohol works wonders for social anxiety - a few drinks practically cures it for me. I thought this would do somewhat the same thing, but it hasn't. Would another benzo work better? Obviously I'm going to ask the psychiatrist, but I want more opinions.

Try a different benzo. I had the same problem with Valium, I would take 2 x 5mg pills and nothing would happen so now I take Xanax and it works like a charm.

Also why are you against taking an SSRI?
