Hello everyone.
My name is David and I live in New Orleans. I am new to this forum, but I have suffered from OCD for years. I have to count everything (steps, chairs in a room, letters on a billboard, etc.) to get through my everyday routine. Hardly anyone knows about my condition, as I choose to keep it a secret out of embarrassment. Probably the worst thing I could have ever done to agitate my condition was watch the movie "Pi", but I did and liked it so much that numbers are now in everything that I do, including write music.
The style of the music is avant-garde jazz, but I think that anyone can appreciate it if they listen to it. I have been taking the numbers of Pi and using them as a source of data. I apply each number to a musical formula and I compose these patterns of sound. Every 100 digits is another song, every song another formula. I can see myself writing music like this forever. It is a creative outlet, and it gives me a chance to use my OCD for something positive instead of negative. Now, I am almost thankful for my disorder because it is helping me express myself in a way that I could never achieve before. My music is more intense, almost as intense as these OCD urges when they occur. Here's a link to some of the songs:
Don't think that I just showed up to plug my art, because I am genuinely interested in sticking around and participating in discussions to help other people...and I might learn a thing or two about my own situation in the process.
