I read that hypnosis (in praticular hypnotherapy) can be used to help people address their phobias.

Does anyone know/heard about hypnosis with social phobics?

This came to me because someone in a forum wrote that he thinks that reprogramming one's mind is possible.

I need answers! I can't live like this!

Hi,
I am currently having some hypnotherapy for some social anxieties that I have.

I have been three times now and am going for the fourth on this coming Monday.

I suppose its early days yet for me as I have had phobias for so long but its an interesting process. Very relaxing. If you want to know more let me know and I'll tell you in more detail.

Terry

i have been trying to get info. on possible hypnosis for social phobia for a long time. i actually bought a hypnosis book for phobias in general and they had one section on there with prompts- whatever they call them, the hypnosis session itself with the words to say and all- for social phpbia (sorta). i recorded myself saying the paragraphs, and i listened to that same thing a few times, but i felt no impact, so who knows- id rather find a professional who can do this for me. ive seen episodes of daytime talk shows where people who were deathly afraid of snakes, bugs, even cats were totally at ease with these animals after hypnosis given backstage. sounds very interesting, if anyone has anymore info of can give me more detail (like terry), please e mail me at jboze3131@hotmail.com

id appreciate any info. anyone could give me. now, i just need to find someone in southern indiana who does this sort of thing and hope it doesnt cost a fortune.

Hi everyone,
I suggest trying with NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), it worked for me. My social life is satisfying now, I don't feel like I have SA anymore. After I overcame SA I myself studied NLP and became a practitioner. Now I work with SA people in London.
I have posted some info on NLP and on hypnotherapy in the discussion board of the SA-UK site http://azure.bbboy.net/sauk-viewforum?forum=1
The thread is the "One-to-one SA Work"

Several NLP practitioners are also hypnotherapists. Some changework techniques are used by both hypnotherapists and NLP people. For example, NLP has a phobia cure that works quickly and effectively same as the hypnotherapy work mentioned in the preceding message. You can access a description of that technique on http://nickhanlon.mysitespace.com/nomore/phobia.htm
Nick Hanlon's website is worth visiting, it gives very useful information on self-help for SA people.

There are a lot of NLP practitioners in the US, although I am not aware of people specialising in SA. Try to run some searches in Google, maybe there are some specialists out there.

Hope it helps! Very Happy

are Sallier and Terry still around?
has there been anything further to report on the hypnotherapy and reprogramming.
i'm overwhelmed by your bravery and effort to try these things, to not just take the path of acceptance existing by simply waking up each day and inhaling and exhaling.

I started using hypnotherapy,it works fairly well. I would recommened it because it channels the information you haven't been telling you self. It allows you to give your self confidence in a control way and can be self taught and used in everyday situations you find difficult, by relaxing and telling yourself positive things. I would recommend giving it a go, whats the harm in trying. Smile

hello Richkid
it's good to hear of your success.
are you doing the hypnotherapy with a therapist? what does it involve?
how often do you do it?
do you supplement it with other therapies or medications?

take care.

I started going to a guy that works for the Society of Stress management. It's mild hypnosis they don't get you running around the room acting like a chicken well I haven't had any side effects like that. The idea behind it is to be in control of your body.It teaches you to relax, stage by stage get progressive towards confronting situations you find difficult, but done in a controlled way. They but you in a place that feels great like a beach,to reduce the nervousness. By repeating youself in a social situtation over and over, you stop when you fell anxious then relax come back into it, It surprising how you relax more, and with practice you can use it in everyday, instead of shutting down and wanting to leave a situation you can go through the relaxation technique and slowly bring yourself back in feeling better. One thing its great at is being relax inturn you do get a uplifting sensation. Its expensive though.
