returning to college

i'm considering returning to college. i went for a year, but didn't go back. it's been about five years now, and i feel like just one year of college is a bit of a waste... but i'm now eligible for enough grant aid that i wouldnt need to take out loans, so seems like a good time to go, rather than wait longer if i ever go back at all.

i'm mostly anxious about applying and going through that process, transferring (if i change colleges), changing majors, calling about transcripts and what all i'd need to if i returned to the same college (website is unclear), financial aid stuff, finding housing (depending on the college), etc...

also nervous about selecting a major...

I'd say go for it! I don't know if you still work on the online job you have but I'm sure you would like to do something else other then that. It's scary but if you find the right career path you could really love it.

well, i was accepted for readmission to my old university. probably going to still major in graphic design.

i'm super nervous though. i haven't told my parents or family yet, and i really don't know how they'll take it. i've only told a few people, with mixed reactions. mostly positive, but some people think it's weird.

my parents and family, every time i've brought up returning to college, they've always shot it down, all pitching in their ideas of what i should do with my life. "Go to trade school" "Don't major in that. You'll never find a job." "I really think you should go for nursing instead." "Why don't you just go take some career classes? Could be a medical assistant or something." Parents flat out said no when i wanted to go a few years back.

also the whole process of returning is a bit overwhelming... so many people i have to call. i hate calling people.

Plus, I must say, it is very courageous of you to take that step. One step at a time and you'll be happy you made the decision once you've reached the ultimate goal, which is graduation.

I'd also say go for it. There's people at university that can help you out with the application process. Even if you don't get a job in graphic design at least you won't regret never giving what you really want to do a try.

Admittedly, the part about parents being totally against the idea is a hard thing to deal with.
