I keep reading about people attacking innocent ppl on the news and now i'm paranoid. Even in real life scary thing happen. Last night I was walking with my best friend after grocery shopping and this guy stopped next to us and starting yelling "go home you b******." We didn't even do anything. I was afraid he was going to kill us for no reason. There was another time I was walking in the city not giving eye contact to anyone and a group of people starting talking to me and following me. I just hopped on the train nearby luckily I had a ticket and they went away. It's just sad that the world is like this. I think the majority of people are good it just sucks when evil people have to try to ruin everything...

I get scared, too. Sorry to hear about your experiences. Some people really suck...they're just nasty for no reason. Who goes around just picking on random strangers? Losers, that's who.

I know what you mean......kind of.... I have no desire ot go out and be around people my age or younger...There's ALWAYS more than a few of them who are complete *******'s for no reason...the kinds of people who never learned that its NOT ok to point, laugh, stare, and generally be a douchebag to other people just for kicks.....I especially dont like any type of place where mostly ignorant people seem to congregate.

I believe there is more good in the world. Don't let the bad apples scare you into being housebound. Be aware of your surroundings at all times. I believe my SA makes me good at that. Don't travel alone in the city. Try and stay with a group.

I've always been extremely paranoid of everyone, even good people. I had a bad experience with a lot of people in my life. My whole school life I've been picked on, threatened and beaten up. Hell I went to the movies with my brother yesterday and seen a group of teenagers smoking in front of the theater, I was so scared to pass them, when I did though I was so relieved.

I would have to say though the scariest thing that's ever happened to me and still gives me the chills. I was working at Subway and it was during a country concert weekend. There was a lot of drunks in the area. I was given the job to let people out then lock the door behind them. Well there was a group of people outside mad because I wouldn't let them in. They started to make fun of me and then touch me. I went to close the door and they opened it and got in my face. They started to touch my stomach making fun of me about being over weight. They then put there face up to mine and blew smoke in it, they called me names and slammed the door on my face. I was so scared that I didn't even know it happened till after it was done. I was never so scared.

But I do understand what you mean, I recommend staying away from the news its anxiety inducing .

I confess that I also let myself get carried away by the many nasty news on TV. It came to the point that going out became something similar to a "survival mode" to me. But still I manage to go out with my family to our usual monthly shopping at the supermarket, refuting some aspects of my irrational fears.

Anyway, first of all, I'd suggest staying away from such "news" reports who likes to earn free reputation based on people's disgrace. This is literally poison to your brains.
And, as posted above, try to go out with your friends or family to the shopping or another place you know until you feel yourself confident enough to go alone. Don't forget to look around and avoid distractions.

At the moment shopping centres are frightening for me.

Same -.- my bf wants to go to a crowded festival tomorrow and I'm freaking out... it should be fun but I'm just going to be in fight or flight mode tomorrow. He says just to avoid eye contact with people and we will be good. I don't want to have to avoid eye contact with people?? The more I do that I feel even more stared at ugh x.x

Yeah they are losers :( that's why I'm going to get a stun gun to feel a little better... it's just annoying when security takes that away in certain places but "bad guys" aren't afraid of security and hide it and then the innocent become defenseless. I'm so tired of this crap...

I'm on high alert when I have to go out at night. I feel like danger is lurking in the shadows and around corners. Too many crazies out and about right these days.

If there was an equilibrium between the good news and the bad news on your television (as in, if they reported everything good that happened instead of just bad things), there would be more good things than bad things. Thing is, it's the bad things that give news stations their ratings (think Fox News, and all the show they put in).

You should consider following Humans of New York on Facebook, it'll restore your faith in humanity. Amazing, colorful people.

Obviously I'm not saying you shouldn't be careful when you're outside, since bad apples do exist, but make sure you're aware of your surroundings, places you're safe and places you should avoid, and you'll be okay. Also, the less vulnerable you look, the lesser the chances of people trying to cause trouble. Walk confidently and keep your back straight.
