Seeing people you know in Public...

This is horrible for me. Especially if its a person I know, but arent friends with.

If I see someone I know well (eg.Friends or Family) I may talk to them or avoid them depending on the day.

If I see someone I know, but don't speak to much and/or havent spoken to for a while, my immediate reaction is 'oh fuck' because I have NFI what they are thinking. Am I expected to say hello, or will I look like an idiot if I do? I just keep quiet, even if the person is expecting something, at least they cant judge you based on the tone of your hello. Lesser of two evils Id say.

Yeah, I have the same problem. I have this fear that they're going to give me a strange look, or be embarrassed that I said hi to them. But I'm sure that's a carryover from elementary/high school days when kids had the tendency to be jerks. I'm always surprised when old classmates come up and say hi to me. It's nice, yet I always feel incredibly guilty and stressed out when they do. Just the SA at work I guess.

I can only say hi to acquaintances (sometimes) if they've said hi to me first. Then I become even more anxiety-ridden because I'm worrying they think I'm stuck up because I didn't say hi first. I just have to keep pushing myself to say hi and not think about whether they wanted me to or not. Rrrgh....the insecurity!

For me it depends on who it is. If it's a good friend then it's nice but perhaps I prefer to it not happen. But there are a few persons that I do wish to see. :} I don't like to meet classmates and such that I do not talk with usually. :/

I have ducked people in the past like that.....just didnt want to have to talk to them..don't dislike them in most cases....just didn't want to explain what I wasent doing with my life.....I may stil do that if the situation was escapable...but if I think by my ignoring them or walking the other way will be inturpreted by them as I'm avoiding them....I will tuff it out & try to get thru it the best that I can...in the hopes that they will not think as bad of thoughts about me as they may have if they came to the conclusion that I was intentionaly avoiding them..

It just gets really awkward. I always think that they won't remember me, so that if I work up enough nerve and say hi they'd be "heeeeey...you", then the small talk would happen which would make it more uncomfortable since I usually don't have anything to say. So i avoid people I know as much as I can.

I do the same thing. I much prefer being far way where no one knows me. Sometimes i will be halfway through the door to go outside into the garden, i'll hear someone i know walking down the road and i will go back in the house until the coast is clear. I just can't handle chit chat and people asking me questions.

I haven't seen anyone I know in public since I graduated high school two years ago. Lol, so sad it's funny.

Most of the people I know (not really friends- just acquaintances) are actually my mom's friends, or my sister's. When I see them from afar, I avoid them. I'm saying over and over again in my head like a mantra, "Please don't let them see me, please don't let them see me, if they do, please don't let them recognize me >_<" I'm just like FUCK! Why the fuck do I have to see these damn people wherever I go?!?!

I usually try to make it look as if I never saw them in the first place, avoiding eye contact with them completely. If they come up and talk to me my face will always go bright red and I'll have to say whatever i can to get out of there asap.
