Forenote: As we all know everyone is different and respond differently to things. However, I am committed to posting any potential cures for HH.
Sertraline hydrochloride also know as Zoloft is commonly used to treat anxiety and depression. Doctors most commonly prescribe zoloft for HH if they feel your sweating is more "behavioral" or "situational." In other words, they don't necessarily think that you have 'Primary Hyperhidrosis.' Rather, your perspiration is more of a "when 'x' happens, I start sweating profusely."
(note that I suffer from primary HH all over my body.)
Zoloft has some pros in that it has few side effects, is non habit forming, has a cheap generic, does not cause weight gain, and does not change personality.
Zoloft belongs to a class of drugs known as SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors). Zoloft works to correct a chemical imbalance in the brain. While it is unknown exactly what symptoms these chemical imbalances can relieve (it is known to help with anxiety and depression) I as well as my doctor speculate that Zoloft can help people who have an overactive sympathetic nervous system (OSNS).
OSNS is thought to be the cause of HH, and while I have tried every cure under the rainbow including ionto, glyco, beta-b, botox, drysol, I have recently started to try Zoloft.
To test its effects on HH the doctor prescribed me a low dose, 25mg. 25mg is thought to be an ineffective dose when treating anxiety and depression, however we were curious to see the effects on HH. When taking Zoloft it can take up to 8 weeks for the effects to be noticed and after about 4 weeks a mysterious effect started happening to me one day. When walking in 95F heat I was shocked to find my feet were not sweating in my shoes and my body was not sweating at all! Thus far, I have had very little sweating all over my body.
Though I currently have botox injections in my hands and use Professional Right Guard Deodorant, my feet, back, face, buttocks have not sweat at all.
I recommend everyone to talk to their doctors and look into trying Zoloft for themselves. I will continue to update everyone on how it works. If things continue like this, I will continue taking Zoloft.
Regards,
C
