I love shopping for clothes! But when I get up to the cash register I get so nervous that I always mess up and give the wrong amount to the cashier. I turn bright red when they tell me that I'm a dollar or two off and I feel totally stupid and I'm sure that they think that I'm uneducated or something. I always reply with "Oh," and that makes me sound even stranger.

I always reply with "sure thing", the cashier will say "that'll be fifty dollars" so ill say "sure thing", instead of what i want to say like "did you know that cash registers were invented in the eitheen hundreds, and no it wasnt jonny cash machine" 'boom tish', ive had some awkward cash register moments in my time as well, but since those days i just use small-talk to kill the time while waiting for the reciept to come through, also your a girl so try complimenting them regarding an item of clothing or hair style, hmmm maybe thats too forward.....you'll think of something but remember that the only reason a cashier turns up to work is because of the money and because if they dont they'll be fired, im not trying to offend cashiers but its not exactly a dream job, its like by job at the bistro, i dont exacly enjoy working there but i know the pay makes me roll around like a puppy dog, thats a funny comparison..maybe jump around like a monkey, anyways so they are payed to consult the customer and show interest, also your not uneducated because your at University and youve done well to get into that realm of education, so pat yourself on the back, and whats it to them if your shy, you dont know them personally so remember that next time your at a shop, that you have nothing to lose even if you think you sound silly and uneducated it will boost your confidence to engage them with small-talk, but also there is nothing wrong with saying nothing either, your there to browse around for items right, also try and relax yourself before you walk into a shop, think of a greeting in your head before you enter

I stopped using cash for the majority of the things that I buy about ten years ago. I had the same problem, I would get to the register and be nervous and miscount my money. One time I gave the cashier 100 dollars for 20 dollars worth of stuff and did not realize until I got home that the cashier had only given me back 60 dollars. After that I started using my credit cards and my new problem was getting nervous signing the receipt, but I have gotten better at it.

i have to double and triple check that i have the right amount of money in my wallet b4 i go to the cash register... and the adrelyin goes up at that time.

im so bad at calculating the left over change.. but recenlty ive becoming used to count the left over change backwards.. like if i paid a 10, and the stuff is for 8.75.. then they give me a 1.25, but i dont subtract the 10 - 8.75, what i do is i count 1.25 + 8.75, which gives 10 :)

addition is much easier than subtraction :)

i tend to check and re-check the notes, u know how u take dollar notes out of ur wallet/purse and sometimes they stick together and u need to kind of slide them together to make sure you're only taking one note and not 2 or more. especially if its a 10 or 50 dollar bill. because i fear handing over more notes to them, so i tend to check n check n check, over n over abit, even though i already kind of know that im holding on to one note, and i slide that note a few times lol. jus so that i dont hand over too much and they dont cheat me by keeping the extra note if i handed over more to them. lol..

That's why we invented debit cards.

I'm so glad that I'm not the only person with this problem!

So, do you think that watching other people check out would... improve my checking out skills? :?
