Shyness

Hi everyone,
I'm a shy person and I would want more than anything than to overcome this challenge. I've been shy my whole life and now that I'm getting older I think it's time for me to overcome shyness. It's affecting my work life and I want to be more sociable but I need advice on how to approach it in an easy way.
Someone say go to therapy it helps but I want to do this on my own but I just don't know the steps to take.
If you have any advice or tips on how to deal with shyness I would really appreciate your help!! Please and thank you!

It's difficult to advise you without knowing more about you. Whether this is mere shyness or a more serious issue. I understand wanting to do it on your own, but therapy would be the best route to go. At least to try a few times. If it's only confidence you lack, you might find some talking to another person about your feelings, getting a better handle on them. And if it is something more serious, it's best to address them now than put them off. The truest compass to follow is to be yourself. As isolating as that might be, someone is bound to find it appealing. Good luck!

I would do therapy but I don't think my parents would let me go because they don't think I'm shy.. I'm the loudest person when I'm around my family and people I know but when it comes to new people and others I don't know my mind just shuts off and I don't know what to say..

Yeah I'm like that too. It's a bit hard to overcome it, but try to build up your confidence by exposing yourself to a situation that you might be shy in, in other words, step out of your comfort zone. It's easier said than done right?
