Sleeping pills to help with Anxiety?

Okay, so I'm really desperate. School starts tomorrow (i'll be a senior) and I'm nervous as hell. My doctor put me on Zoloft, but I stopped taking them because they were doing nothing at all. I have some sleeping pills and I was thinking about taking one or two before school starts. Would it help calm my nerves? I know it would make me sleepy, but hopefully I could keep myself awake. What do you guys think? Should I take sleeping pills? Thanks in advance. :)

Umm...I wouldn't.

Do you happen to have motion sickness meds in your house? Dramamine...gravol? Something like that? I take one before school if I'm nervous about a presentation. They work alright for me.

I would ask about a medication called Vistaril. It is an antihistimine similar to benedryl, but it has been fda approved for gad. I have sad, but they had no issues putting me on it. It is a prn, so you don't have to worry about taking your pills everyday on time. It is very mild, non-addictive and doesn't make me feel drugged, just more relaxed.

(just a suggestion, your reaction to it could be different, but from what I have read. A lot of people have good reactions to it.) sorry this is so long, just in a talkative mood:D

P.s. I don't claim any of this as fact outside my own experience. You may want to google it yourself.

I just realized I rambled off about vistaril without focusing on your actual question. It would probably not hurt you, but just getting into the habit of meddling with that kind of thing doesn't seem like a good idea to me. But ultimately its your choice.

sleeping pills when you're not trying to sleep? I wouldn't do that. I'd google that. Would suck to feel super-sleepy like you can't keep your eyes open. I hate when I'm sleepy at school lol. Take one now so you can fall asleep and be fully rested for tomorrow and good luck in your senior year :)

Try to get help from a good counselor at school. The worst thing you could do is stop going to school and not feeling happy that you finished it, like what happened to me. There is always one teacher, counselor, coach, etc who's willing to help even when s/he's the only one in the whole place.

It'll be ok. You're a senior, which means only a year is left.

My personal experience has been that ambien tends to help with my anxiety if I drink coffee and don't fall asleep. It can be tricky though and it affects people differently.

I never got any kind of anxiety relief from taking sleeping meds. At the lower doses it just makes me tired. At way above the recommended doses, it "helps" with anxiety because you are too busy trying not to fall over because you can't keep your eyes open. Sleeping meds also depress your breathing, that might reduce anxiety is some, but I find that triggers anxiety for me.
