The only way I've been able to sleep for at least three or more months now is by taking benadryl (diphenhydramine) every night. It's safe up to 400 mg.'s & I usually take 75-150 (rarely 150-- usually 100 to 125 which is four or five 25mg. pills). I don't like the fact that I have to resort to this to sleep, but at least I sleep most of the time now. Before I was lucky to get 3-4 days of sleep a week.

I am always raring to get to bed because I'm always so tired from getting up early for work. If not, I do go to bed at night pretty late, maybe 2 or 3 plus in the morning.

Wake up at 6 am every morn there sleeping problems will be cured if you don't take naps and whatnot during the day. You'll start getting tired around 9-10pm if you have a productive day. you can't be sleeping all day then expect to sleep at night.

How do you sleep in the heat of the summer?

I get too warm in bed at winter for some reason,a few past girlfriends use to call me there personal radiator because I'm always warm even when it's cold at night. There's me thinking they want to cuddle and they just want to keep warm lol ::p:

But In summer, sleep naked, windows open and fan on,get a ceiling fan fitted to your lights too that will help.

If you wanna shift your sleep cycle, I've heard the way to do it is in 1 hour increments every 2 days. Work out your natural wake time, and set an alarm for 1 hour earlier than that tomorrow. Then after a couple of days at that time, set the alarm another hour earlier, and so on until your wake time is 8-11am or whatever. Eventually you'll start to get sleepy earlier in the night, and you should find it easier to fall asleep.

Apparently you're also meant to get at least an hour of sunlight as soon as you wake up too - tells your brain and hormones it's wakeup time, and so on the other side of the equation your body's more likely to think it's sleep time earlier in the night. The artificial light in computer monitors triggers the same hormones, so if you cbf going outside just play some bright pc games for an hour when you wake up. Or you can buy light boxes to sit in front of, to the same effect. I went through that process a few years ago and it seemed to work for me. If you're really committed, keeping a sleep journal kinda helps too - mark the approximate times you fall asleep and wake up. Then you'll be able to see if your sleep cycle is shifting properly - you should start falling asleep a little earlier after 4 days or so.

This only really works if you're sleeping alright, just at the wrong times. If for psychological reasons you can't get good sleep at any time, then this mightn't really work.

If you try these tips and you still can't sleep, go and see your doctor. You can talk over any problems that may be stopping you from sleeping. If your work has a human resources manager, that's the person you should talk to first about your sleep problems.

Does anyone here have both SA and insomnia... and think that despite their SA being bad, it's really the sleeping problems that are causing the main difficulties in life, especially working life?

I did until I started taking Trazodone.

In fact before bed I take a cocktail of Trazodone, Metroprolol, Buspirone, and sometimes Clonazepam (that's for when my brain really doesn't shut up).

I sleep pretty well now.

Before that though it was horrible.

I have sleeping problems and was also told to set an alarm and make it earlier every few days.

I just find it hard to get out of bed in the morning because I don't have a job at the moment and don't have much to do, so I think what is the point.

I have managed to get out of bed more regulary 2 hours earlier than what I normally do, but still can't get to sleep at night. I wake up at about 9 or 10am and can't sleep until about 4am. When I do sleep it is broken and I am constantly tossing and turning. It also doesn't help that at night I tend to get a lot of night time anxiety so my brain doesn't shut up.

Who recommended that cocktail? Or was it by your own trial and error? You don't gain resistance/tolerance to it?

I'd really like to get to sleep at night... Glad you found some night time rest!
