I loathe small talk, so much so that I'd rather just be known as that aloof person who doesn't even try interacting with the people around me, meh....

So I see you have some feet down there at the end of your legs. Look, I have a pair myself!

I like to use mine for walking around, mostly. You?

Really!? Omigosh we have so much in common!

...are we bff's yet?

Scenario: in a semi crowded place and see someone i don't know but want to get to know.

"Hey what's your name? Ain't you Jessica's cousin/sister/mother ?".... "You're not? You look just like her!".... "I'm sorry. Are you thirsty? Lets go get a drink, huh?"..... "I'm jc972, nice to meet you. :) yeah i come here all the time."

small talk depends on the scenario..are you in class studying biology or in the supermarket looking at pickle jars?are you at a baseball game where you can comment on the players or something?you need to give a scenario of where you would start small talk..if you mean just walking up to a stranger in a club or store, ehh not so sure what i would say..

I think if you want to gain a real friend the problem is not the small talk, but the step after...?
Hrm.

Coordinating outfits?

Figuring out whom your common enemies are and plotting to overthrow them?

Sharing toothbrushes?

I never was very good at figuring out that next step. Or the first one so much, really.

I can't small-talk.

I have a thin quiver of phrases that I rely on when I'm in a pinch, but when they're exhausted I just look somewhere else and try to act like I'm thinking about something.

Very rarely will a stranger put me enough at ease to make idle conversation, but when they do, it goes surprisingly well.

What do you do?

Do you like it?

How long have you been doing that?

Where did you go to school?

What did you study?

How do you know________?

What do you do in your free time?

Just take all the question words you know and keep firing them off like that... asking for more info. If you're not finding anything to connect with, let it be.

I don't mind small talk, actually... if the person is interesting I will forget my anxiety and want to find out more about them. But if they're boring/not opening up I will be thinking in my mind 'oh no I'm going to run out of questions soon' or I won't know how to get away...

How are your movements lately? Getting enough fiber? Hehe.

But seriously, small talk is tough. Recently I was around a group of strangers and they started talking about how to get a drawstring back into a pair of pants once it had come out completely. I had to excuse myself from them after the third suggestion and I didn't feel like coming up with one myself. Lol.

what pacific loner means by next step is asking your friends to do things, going out, hanging out together, meeting their friends etc etc..that has always been the hard part for me as being around people is very draining..i have found that the reward barely matches the effort put out so

''I never noticed how lovely your nostrils are. ..May I smell them?''

''Is this your gun? Mine doesn't have a serial number on it.''

''Hey, last night I saw the most interesting lecture on tying shoes.''

''I don't get these iPad things, sure they're pretty, but I scratch it every time I cut a carrot on it.''

''I'm fine. My psychiatrists think I have a problem, though. My friends in my head disagree.''

''No, I don't have the time. I'm not a wizard.''

''How much would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? No, seriously.''

''You know, I find the lack of symmetry in your face endlessly fascinating.''

''Why would you ask me that? I don't have the slightest clue how many things are 'up'.''
