Small Town Anxiety is Exposing me

I have looked to see if fear of small towns has a phobia name. My town isn't all that small, but it is claustrophobically insular. Flying back into the town I live in is like a descent into hell. The plays begins its descent and the dread wells up. I am back in this frightening wasteland of conservatism and intolerance, where I wake in fright.

I went on a day trip recently and felt this while coming back "home" which I can also call "hell" too.

Over and over again I think of the way to rid of this feeling, and the same answer always comes back to me.

I think the only way to escape, is to leave, but it is all I know. I would miss the coastline and bushland, not the people.

Definitely. I would love to one day. It's funny because so many people that know me always assumed I've already moved away. One day I will make this true.

The best thing ever is going into town and not knowing anybody but it took me yrs to loose my romance for the IDEA of small-town living is good. Small towns are not Mayberry, they can be hell :)

This sums it up for me-most all of the posts deal directly with the horrible close-minded and gossips small town people can be.

Someone Explain To Me How To Survive A Small Town : I Hate Small Town Simple Minded People Story & Experience

No-town-living is where it is at for me! :perfect:

That was a great read. Although her situation is more extreme than mine (my town isn't quite THAT small), I can definitely relate. I can particularly relate to feeling that a lot of people here are simple minded. I want to clarify, by simple minded I don't mean stupid. I mean their minds are mainly focused on small, simple and petty things that anyone from a big city would find rather juvenile. Things like holding 20 year grudges against another for the smallest offense. At first I found it charming but now not so much.

If you have a fight with your lover if you get a haircut if you cannot pay your grocery bill Everyone knows in a small town. Small Town=Small Minds. They are a microcosm for all of society though, imo.

I want to buy a few 1000's acres and never see another soul-maybe one other for the rest of my earthy life. Lots of nature and animals.

Population Zero LOL
