Hello everyone,

My name is Ronan and I am student at the University of East London who is carrying out a research study on how social anxiety affects people’s relationships. I am here because I would like to recruit participants for my study. I feel strongly that those who are affected with social anxiety are best placed to inform psychologists and researcher on the topic. However, not many studies have given people with social anxiety a chance to tell their story. Therefore this study will take a different approach and interview people with social anxiety about their experiences on the telephone or over Skype. I have included some information about the study below. If you are interested in taking part or would like more information please email me at [email protected]

Thanks,
Ronan

Project Title
An exploration of how individuals affected by social anxiety experience relationships with others

Description
The purpose of the study is to explore how people affected by social anxiety experience and think about relationships with others. At present this is something that is not very well understood and it is hoped that this study will help provide insights which may be useful for designing therapeutic interventions to help people who experience social anxiety. The finished research will be written up as an academic thesis and may also be submitted to academic journals.

Participation
Participation will involve being interviewed about how your social anxiety affects your relationships with other people. Sample questions include: “What type of people do you enjoy spending time with?” and “What is it like for you getting to know someone?” You can may be interviewed on the telephone or over Skype. Interviews are expected to last thirty to forty-five minutes but you may speak for less than this if you wish. All your information will be anonymised and remain completely confidential.

Remuneration
Once the interview is complete you will receive a £10 Amazon voucher via email as a thank you for taking part in this study.

Criteria
Participants must:
- Be over 18 years of age
- Live in the UK
