Just out of morbid curiosity, does anyone have any idea what the suicide rate for people with severe social anxiety might be?

May i ask what productive use knowing these statistics will serve you or any other peeps around these here parts ...

i'd say it does occur regularly in the country you and i live in mainly from depression that stems from all sorts of emotions and events leading up to it but you may not hear about it, it occuring from social A is probably frequent..

even people who on the outside seem cheery and happy end it ..

but i just don't believe suicide is the answer to peoples troubles, its suicide of the nuerosis or the ending of the specific inner struggle thats keeping you stagnent that you want to it to bugger off and die not your entire self ...

Without doing a search on Google, I think I would bet my money on their being a high correlation between social phobia and suicide. However, Social phobia is an all ecompassing term which refers to a broad range of symptoms. For example, anxiety, depression, OCD, other phobias like fear of spiders.

Now I mostly suffer from anxiety and don't want to end my life but sometimes I do get a little depressed and think about suicide. The thing that keeps me going is the people who I love and the HOPE that I can get on with my life without this impediment. I believe I have the will power to cure my anxiety and that's what keeps me going.

Suicide is just an easy way out I feel. Think of your illness as a challenge and say to yourself that you will not let it beat you. Your a fighter.

From Wikipedia:

Comorbidity

There is a high degree of comorbidity with other psychiatric disorders. Social phobia often occurs alongside low self-esteem and clinical depression, due to lack of personal relationships and long periods of isolation from avoiding social situations. To try to reduce their anxiety and alleviate depression, people with social phobia may use alcohol or other drugs, which can lead to substance abuse. It is estimated that one-fifth of patients with social anxiety disorder also suffer from alcohol dependence.[33] The most common complementary psychiatric condition is unipolar depression. In a sample of 14,263 people, of the 2.4 percent of persons diagnosed with social phobia, 16.6 percent also met the criteria for clinical depression.[34] Besides depression, the most common disorders diagnosed in patients with social phobia are panic disorder (33 percent), generalized anxiety disorder (19 percent), post-traumatic stress disorder (36 percent), substance abuse disorder (18 percent), and attempted suicide (23 percent).[35] In one study of social anxiety disorder among patients who developed comorbid alcoholism, panic disorder, or depression, social anxiety disorder preceded the onset of alcoholism, panic disorder and depression in 75 percent, 61 percent, and 90 percent of patients, respectively. Avoidant personality disorder is also highly correlated with social phobia.[36] Because of its close relationship and overlapping symptoms with other illnesses, treating social phobics may help understand underlying connection in other psychiatric disorders.

There is research indicating that social anxiety disorder is often correlated with bipolar disorder.[37] Some researchers believe they share an underlying cyclothymic-anxious-sensitive disposition.[38] In addition, studies show that more socially phobic patients treated with anti-depressant medication develop hypomania than non-phobic controls.[39][40] This can be seen as the medication creating a new problem, and also has this adverse effect in a proportion of those without social phobia.

They say attempted suicide rate is around 23 %. They don´t say anything about those who suceeded at it, still, is 23 % normal?
