I play online games using Xbox live, you use a microphone to talk to the people your playing the game with.Problem is im so nervous talking on the mic, i get self concious and find it hard to talk.I feel like my voice will sound creaky or people wont hear or understand me :(.This isnt the case when im using the keyboard though to chat to people in games.

Im originally from Ireland, and when my family moved over to Canada in 1981 i kinda found it hard to fit in.So i purposely adopted a Canadian sounding accent and when i came home from school would talk with my normal Irish accent.To this day i think it has some bearing on my social phobia.

Is it normal for a person to put an accent on purpose to fit in more?

rko74, i prefer single player games, actually i have never played any game online. My favourite games are action games like Mafia and Max Payne I and II. What are yours?

Yeah i try to not put my Canadian accent on and talk with my normal Irish accent.But i still hear myself speaking with the Canadian accent, i guess its sorta automatic thing i dont realise im doing.Ah well at least im trying to chat on the microphone, i guess that is positive in a way even though i may sound nervous , and some folks may not understand me. Someone thought i sounded drunk tonight on it, haha.I guess he couldnt understand me.

Oh cool, i loved those max payne games aswell! Im looking forward to Alan Wake . I like the first person ones, and i play alot of those mmo type games.I dont have to talk in them though i can type my thoughts out lol.

Well it could have been because i was laughing alot during the game.I got caught up in a fit of uncontrolled laughter when someone was running around trying to shoot me

Maybe he thought i was drunk haha, ahh who cares i think too much what people think of me.

i often play first person games too (shooters). I like adventure games and quests too, but i feel they "encourage" my SP so i try to avoid them
