St John's Wort

Hey,
Has anyone experienced any side effects of taking St John's Wort? I got some recently and I was just having a quick net search about things it shouldn't be taken with .

http://www.personalhealthzone.com/stjohnswort.html

"Avoid the following substances when using St.-John's-wort: Amino acids tryptophan and tyrosine; amphetamines; asthma inhalants; beer, coffee, wine; chocolate, fava beans, salami, smoked or pickled foods, and yogurt; cold or hay fever medicines; diet pills; narcotics; nasal decongestants. They all contain chemicals that react adversely to hypericin, causing high blood pressure and nausea. "

Chocolate reacts with St John's Wort? 8O And don't get me started about the Fava Beans! Lol, I don't know how reputable the site is, but has anyone experienced salami induced reactions to St John's wort?

St. Johns wort

Hi! Until yesterday I had been taking it for about 3 1/2 weeks but I came off it because it wasn't doing anything at all for me.

While I was taking it the only side effects I noticed was the occasional spell of diarrhoea but only every few days to a week and it would go away very quickly.

I eat a pretty healthy diet and alot of the things on your list of foods aren't things I'd eat very often of some of them never. However, I was taking athsma inhalers, tyrosine suppliment tablets, a little bit of chocolate the odd time, and I took an antihistimine for my hay fever once or twice too with no adverse reactions.

Before going onto the St. John's Wort I had been using Bach's rescue remedy for years and found it useful but St. Johns wort did absolutely nothing for my SA unfortunately.

yes fallen,

it does nothing for SA as far as i have tried.
but it had reduced my depression, i could feel it, i knew it wasnt placebo effect, it just had this uplift mood and spirit.

when you are less depressed, you'd be more motivated to deal with SA, and that is how i think ST John helps.

IcanDoit - I find the L-Tyrosine amino acid suppliment to be brilliant for lifting the mood. I'm usually a happy enough guy but with two tabs of tyrosine (500mg each), one mat morning, one at night, I am really really happy almost all the time. They are just an amino acid and have no side effects or adverse reactions with any foods. I highly reccomend them for seritonin, but they do nothing for SA so don't buy them for that purpose.

SJW works well for depression; it did nothing for my anxiety however.

The warnings about chocolate, decongestants, ephedrine, caffeine, fava beans, pickled meats, aged cheeses, etc. are the standard warnings for monoamine oxidase inhibitor drugs (MAOIs) like Nardil, Parnate, etc. SJW was once thought to be an MAOI, though it appears to be mostly a serotonin and dopamine reuptake inhibitor ("SDRI" if you will ;) ). Its MAOI effects, if they exist at all, are quite weak and do not require the sorts of dietary restrictions that actual MAOI drugs do.

If SJW was an MAOI, I cetainly would have had the 'hypertensive crisis' that breaking the dietary restrictions while on MAOIs can cause (a possibly fatal reaction). ;)

Thanks for the replies folks. Figured I might as well try SJW, can't do any harm to give these herbal type things a go. I find Bach's rescue remedy is quite useful as well btw.

I used rescue remedy for a good while and it really really helped me. I felt so much better that I thought my sa had almost gone away so I came off the rescue remedy. I felt great all through the winter but then my sa started to get really bad again and I went on the sjw. After it didn't do anything for me I'm now back on the rescue remedy and after a week I feel I'm improving again.

I'm desperately trying to find some clonazepam in the uk without precsription but its proving extremely difficult. I already got ripped off once :(

BAM! i became more relaxed, i dont think about past actions, my i-dont-give-a-shyt attitude intensified, and i dont care what others think of me.

i feel i am more laid back, and feel more at ease

man, it really works, at least for me, and beleive me, its not placebo effect..:)

There is an excellent site for all those who want to know about sjw and other herbal remedies.

www.sjwinfo.org

I have learnt a lot after visiting the site. Initially i was skeptical of using any herbal products, but right now i am very confident with the information i had from the site..just to let you know so that you also find it useful..

1. To give St. John's wort a fair shot, the safe bet is to take it for at least 8 weeks. It takes longer than SSRI's to work, and those take up to 6 weeks to attain full efficacy.

2. Make sure you are on high quality St. John's wort. I'd suggest a research-grade brand with standardized 0.3% hypericin and 4% hyperforin extracts. A decade ago, the hype was centered on hypericin, but now hyperforin is coming to the forefront, it seems. Check out http://www.hypericum.com for and up-to-date SJW resource. Also, you can buy a bottle of research grade SJW through the website. It is manufactured by HBC Protocols, and it is relatively expensive.

3. What is Bach's Rescue Remedy? I'm interested.
