Stereotypes that annoy you

Title says it all really.

Here is a couple that bug me:

That the youth are percieved as naive - I usually appreciate their progressive social awareness.

Middle easterners hate westerners - I have only ever met one middle easterner (Iraqi) and she told me about her life (as breifly as I knew her) - I dont think that ones true.

Any body else?

That all black people are loud. I hate any that will group together races or ethnicities into one boat. I hate those that think people coming from low socioeconomic backgrounds are lazy. I hate when people call shy people weird. I hate when people assume that people with mental disorders are...well, crazy. They (we) are normal and the brain is a hell of a thing.

Ohhhh thats a good one. Me too.

I dont like it when people think that anorexia isnt a mental illness but merely a manifestation of superficiality. Is that a stereotype? I dont know... close enough.

When I was visiting a friend on the Gold Coast, she introduced me to three Middle Eastern friends she had. I didn't really know what to expect because all I see in the media are how insane they are and extremist they think.

As it turned out, they were welcoming and cooked us delicious meals in the middle of the night.

They were some of the nicest blokes I've ever met.

yeah.
all of them
haha

I feel literally sick to my stomach when I hear something racist, sexist or just a general negative stereotype coming out of someone's mouth.
I've learned to tolerate it more on the internet since there are trolls and ignorant people everywhere-- but in real life, I won't stand for it. Not for a second.

The whole "make me a sandwich/go back to the kitchen" thing that men like to say about women, especially on the internet. I get that it's supposed to be a "joke" but I've seen it so many times that it's got to the point where it's just not funny (not that it ever was) and simply just sexist. Also, the belief that women don't play video games or that they do not use the internet is a far outdated and ridiculous stereotype.

^Yeahhhh!

And the stereotype that if you're NOT a 100% girly girl, you must have a secret penis.

Every stereotype annoys me.

I hate it when there's news of something happening somewhere (you name it: muslim terrorism, pedophilia cases in the church, etc.) people have to make stigmatizing comments about entire institutions/religions/groups of people without getting a more nuanced view on life.

Also I hate the left/right thinking in political debates and both sides blaming each other for the problems in society. If you're leftwing you're apparently automatically some sort of a treehugging, sandal wearing, tax-drainer and if you're rightwing you're a rich, selfish, narrowminded, cynical douche who steals from the poor to buy more ferrari's.
Maybe they enjoy this political mud-throwing game? I don't know. I don't find it amusing, nor very humane to put such labels on people. In the end, yes everyone is in it for their own gain and will vote for whatever is best for their situation. But I guess it's a necessary evil in a democracy.

There's a lot of angry idiots on the internet. I guess it's easier thinking in black and white?

That because I'm from the UK, I:
Drink tea non stop.
Say 'pip-pip' and speak in received pronunciation.
Have bad teeth.
Like the BBC programme Sherlock.

And pretty much any racist stereotype. I just hate them. D:

That because I'm female, I automatically can't play video games or work a computer and when I say "Actually, I build computers as a hobby", I get a sceptical look.

That because I have Social Anxiety I must be boring. I get that a lot.

i often find it hard to comprehend some of the stereotypes i've encountered concerning americans or american life in general

apparently the broad strokes and caricatures used by Hollywood television and screenwriters has led many viewers to think that life in the United States is far different than what most of us actually experience every day

movies and TV shows are fantasy - that's why people watch them

what's really perplexing is that it's not just people overseas who are mislead by this - a great many americans have bought into the myth as well

we have created an entire culture of inadequacy - everyone wondering why their lives aren't like the ones they're constantly being shown by the entertainment and advertising industries
