The Future of Gaming

Right now we don't have the higher end machines for it but they say in several years they can turn the detailed polygons in the games we have right now into something being multiplied by itself over and over again till there are no longer polygons in use and we now have atoms in gaming which can give very realistic detail. Something like a real life gamer world more so than what we have today :D

This could mean the end of reality.

I would prefer it if we took a step back to times of less realistic detail.Game icons are pretty thin on the ground nowadays, the last remarkable creation seems to have been solid snake from MGS.

I'm the exact opposite I'd rather they bring back the virtual reality headgear as well remember that thing in the mid 90's kids then they banned it for some reason and they would have had so many advances by now :(

They need to make a game where I can practice talking to people, specifically women. Make it as random as possible like real life. Hopefully though it wouldnt make my console burst into flames out of sheer confusion.

Very much agreed.

Imagine if gaming technology expands to a point where we can actually be "inside" the game like with virtual reality helmets or something of the like. As awesome as that sounds, I sure as hell wouldn't want to be immersed into a game like FEAR, Silent Hill or Dead Space

The rate at which technology is advancing is amazing and frightening at the same time.

I say go forward, make it as realistic as possible. It has one major positive effect and one major negative effect. The positive is, especially with violent-geared games, you can sort of get that violent and dominant experience without actually hurting someone, without taking drugs, etc. The major negative is desensitization. We'll get used to headshots and people getting run over, it may blend into reality and we won't feel anything.

I want to play virtual virtual Skee Ball. So real that I actually think I'm playing virtual skee ball.

For what I've heard this is just nonsense, because while the method of designing graphics is certainly more advanced, it would require such vast amounts of computer power that we're decades away from having a computer with such capacities in your average home.

I love horror games - I'd prefer them to be on a present day console where I can scare the crap out of myself without feeling like I'm in any actual danger.
If I wanted to feel like I'm actually in danger, I'd just leave my room and hang out near the crackhouse nextdoor. -__-

haha

i think we need to wait another 20 years minimum for that.

Nope. If you look at how a modern 3D game engine works (and most software in general), there are a lot of little ways they do things that are vestiges of old hardware limitations that no longer exist. That stuff stays around because programmers don't like to "reinvent the wheel", but there's actually a lot of room for growth in the industry if they just take a really close look at why 3D games work the way that they do. That's what the Unlimited Detail project is all about; looking at the way graphics have always been done, and changing it up for a more modern time. I'd say 5 years max before there are working prototypes out there, of this or a similar system.

Ignoring most of the thread here to say this...

They just want money. The maker of Minecraft said it best: It's a scam. Voxels aren't even going to work like current games until we have harddrives thousands of times bigger than what's available now.

Why Console Link thought consoles would even be able to handle this is lol-worthy.

As long as I dont have to stand when I play games its all good, Kinect and Wii and Move annoy the crap outta me, I dont spend 8 1/2 hours standing and constantly moving at work to comehome, turn on a game and jump around like moron
