yes, definitely - only problem i find is that after a while, it starts to make my guts churn a little, so i don't do it so much now :|

Watch out. I got addicted to the stuff, and I'm not surprised if the Aspartame worsened the anxiety. If you must have gum, try the ones which use Xylitol - it's much safer.

Still, I'm thankfully not addicted to anything else.

Yeah. Extra strong mints also help. But I have bowel disease, so I don't like to chew gum, as it makes me swallow a lot of air. I'd just carry a bottle of peppermint essential oil with me and sniff it every now and then.

Urghh... I used to smoke to take away the anxiety until I found out that it does the exact opposite :? Chewing gum just doesnt change my anxiety either way.

Chewing gum for long periods of time can cause the stomach to start digesting itself

I think it helps me when I focus on the chewing (if that makes sense?) rather than on other worrying thoughts. There are lots of different ways to achieve this though but it does work for me.
