What are your experiences? Were you less anxious around complete strangers? Or even MORE anxious?

I'm going to Romania in a week to visit some relatives and I'm very, very nervous ::(:

I always feel better in other country. Its mainly down to that fact that the chances of meeting someone I'd know are very slim.
I was in florida last year and apart from one bad day (which I took meds for) I felt awesome.

It depends where I am and who I'm with. I was much more comfortable when I went away with a couple of friends a few years back than I am whenever I go away with my family, which I'm doing in a few weeks.

Depends on what countries and the people there, there is no clear answer,I have only been in two countries,Brazil and Japan, its a trade off some things get a lot better while others get worse,at least for me,but overall I am more confortable in Japan.

just as bad going by the other week. Takes alot of time for me to get used to things so I would have to stay a while to determine whether it does help or not

I feel you! I'm traveling alone at the end of this year and i'm terrified. You can do it, you'll be fine. Just drink lots of alcohol on the plane. :D

This is my idea of heaven. Going to a country where no-one knows me. This is the only reason why im working so I can eventually afford to take a tent and bum around the world for a few years. I want to go to asia and see things like the great wall and ankor wat. Or go to egypt and see the pyramids. Or Just anywhere thats not too corrupted by modern western culture. When im travelling i feel free because i know i can just up and leave if things get bad and no-one can tell me what to do.
