Traveling to Rome and Venice alone, and I'm freaking out

I'm traveling soon to Rome and Venice by myself. And I'm so freaked out!

I'm so afraid I'll be lost, or something wrong might happen!

I wanted a private tour guide to take me around, but they are so expensive!! :/ So I'm going to have to go around by myself, oh dear. I hate riding taxis alone, that petrifies me!

Has anyone been to Rome or Venice?

You want to know how I got these scars?
No I haven't been to either, but I envy you sooooo much!

I travelled to New Zealand (overseas for the first time) in late 2013. One thing I did do was familiarise myself with the main areas I was going by using google street view. It wasn't perfect but surprisingly it did help.

I'm planning my next overseas holiday. I haven't decided on a destination as yet and I'd love to see Rome one day.
Anyway, good luck on your adventure and remember - be brave! :)

I have been to both cities at least twice. You should be thrilled. Both cities are very tourist oriented, especially Venice, so you will receive lots of help from people. The concierge at your hotels will give you advice.

I've never travelled alone before. Nobody in my family knows this and I'm sure they'll be surprised once they hear about it. Worse case scenario, we'd have a heated argument.

In my heart I feel like I can get by, but because I've always been such a softie, and scared cat, I feel like I'll screw things up. :( I don't think my family trusts me, and for that reason, I'm not trusting myself.

Someone with AS might occasionally be slightly uncomfortable in Italy, because Italians have this odd way of acting affectionate and angry at the same time. It can be a bit intense. If they act impatient or annoyed, don't take it too seriously. Let them know as quickly as possible that your intentions are good, and everything should be fine.
