Trazodone

Tomorrow morning, I will see a GP and try to convince her (I think it will be a her) to prescribe me trazodone. I was on it when I was 19, and maybe also 20 (it's hard to remember). I don't recall if it helped or not, but I don't recall any side effects either. Meds I've taken since then have had really frightening side effects, so I am thinking that a drug without side effects that might help is better than taking the risk of another nightmare pill.

Does anyone have recent experience with this drug? Is it any good for social anxiety?

I was prescribed Trazodone for sleep because I have chronic nightmares. The only side effect that I had was grogginess. However, it didn't help me with anything.

Huh. That's weird. I've had it prescribed from a GP before.

I was just telling my roommate that GPs in the States will do that. I was surprised too, but evidently here in Latin America they prefer that a psychiatrist do it.

And yeah I might as well acknowledge that living in a different country just makes SA more of a challenge.

Cognitive behavioral therapy. I have had CBT therapists before, but they were eclectic (i.e., useless). Hopefully, this will be the real thing.

Yeah, I've had useless therapists before but hopefully this is the real thing for you. When I'm nervous I like to listen to calming sounds like waves on the beach & such.

I had great success with a mix of trazodone and prozac for about 6 months. Suddenly became confident, my mind was quiet, looked forward to the future, couldn't wait to get up in the morning, had the most vivid dreams of my life and was outgoing. Then it all went away once I began to have more stress and anxiety in my life. I still take trazodone to help me fall asleep but other than that I don't think it does anything now to help me with my anxiety and depression. Never noticed any side effects.

I'm not sure why you'd want to take trazodone in the day time, it causes extreme drowsiness and makes you feel terrible. Maybe that's just my experience though, it may work for some people. I used to take it to go to sleep, and it worked fine for a little while but I had to stop because my head was so clouded the next day, and I felt just awful. It was worse than not getting any sleep. I just felt braindead and zombified, and not in a good way (if there is a good way?). You'll never know how it makes you feel unless you try it though, it's just not something I'd recommend to anyone given my experience.

I was given it only a short time but it was for sleeping problems like others said. They gave me mirtazapine for depression/anxiety though.

I took trazodone in my teens back in the early 1980s. I don't recall any benefit, but I don't recall any side effects either. Maybe there were benefits that I forgot about. In fact, it seemed like I had an unusually large number of friends back then, like maybe 3. Drugs I have taken since then (Prozac, Zoloft, Nardil, Buspar, Effexor) have been awful.
