Did anybody watch the season premiere last night?

any thoughts?





I thought it was a good start to the new season. I wasnt impressed with most of the acting. Except Colin Farrell..I was actually suprised with his performance...I thought he was going to suck but he actually seemed to play that role pretty well....anyway,Rachel McAdams was sub-par.

and i was glad to hear more of T-bone Burnett's dark/ominous music in this season...The only thing thats missing from this season so far is the occult themes....other than that it feels pretty similar to season 1.


btw does anyone know that name of that girl who's singing the song in the bar near the end of the episode?....I liked the vibe of it....kind of sounded like a creepy Noir folksong.

Great take on the premier episode. I agree Colin Farrell was better than I thought, and he was also better than the rest of the cast. The bar tender from Deadwood was a detective- can't remember his name....

They will have trouble topping that first season. I miss those guys. They had great chemistry. Also liked the South more for the backdrop. It had way more intrigue than boring California. Something about those boggy places that feel so naturally ominous. California gives me a headache.

Have you ever watched Ray Donovan? That show is pretty darn good, too..though it is in LA.

Iv heard of Ray Donovan but never watched it. i'll have to check it out.

and yeah idk if they'll be able to pull off what they did in the first season...they've got a similar dark/eerie vibe going on but I was dissapointed that they didnt continue with the story about the louisiana cult...There's so many ways that story could have branched out as Cohl and Hart implicated crooked politicians and government officials with the cult...they could have gone so far into it kind of like in breaking bad when they connected Gustavo Fring and his restaurant chain to madrigal electromotive.

although, I wasnt really into the child molestation themes ...I imagine the writers might not have wanted to delve further into that..which is understandable I guess.

anyway, I read some bad reviews online about season two but i think they arent even giving it much of a chance yet..There's only been ONE episode so far..I imagine the storyline(s) will start unfold in the next few episodes ...The first season had kind of slow pacing like that too and that might be what initially turns people away from True Detective....its a series that kind of grows on you with patience, imo.

Lackluster episode. I wasn't expecting anything as great or as addictive as last season's, but I was hoping for the same quality dialogue and something, anything, distinguishable. It was an okay hour, but honestly, how was it any different than any other police procedural? If the entire season is going to be centered on the death of a city manager, I'm done with it.

Btw, the guy who created this series was a novelist first. Like just about all novelists, they usually have one good book in them (if they're lucky) and the rest of their career is crap. Maybe that magical first season was his good book. I'll give this season a few more eps before I write it off. And though Vince Vaughn makes me wanna vomit, I actually thought he was pretty good in it, surprisingly.

alright so this season has pretty much tanked completely so far...although things are starting to heat up a bit after the climax of last nights episode...but there's only two episodes left so it kind of feels like its too little too late....The pacing was kind of like that in season 1 too and really I wish the pacing would've sped up around episode 3 or 4.

Im really hoping Nick Pizzaloto comes to his senses and brings True Detective back to its roots for season 3...that is, if the series doesn't get ****ing cancelled at the end of season 2 : /

The only thing that's keeping me watching this is the name True Detective. I absolutely loved the first season, Rust is one of my favourite tv-series characters, but season 2 is awful. Colin Farrell is pretty good, but the other characters are not very interesting...same as for the dialogues and the plot in general.

I love season two ...not really.

Colin F has grown on me, I like his character more and more. Vince not so much. Ani is interesting and getting more complex, too.

I am sure the next two episodes will be great. Fingers crossed.

Sophomore Slump is beginning to be my general feeling, though.

but seriously, I agree that Vince Vaughn was horrible for True Detective. I imagine he wont be coming back if there's a season 3. One thing about BOTH seasons that i didnt like is the slow pacing...just when things get going there's only a few more episodes left and then its over.


The ideal situation for season 3 would be just to start off where season 1 ended...That story could have branched off in SO many different directions ...and i say this in a completely heterosexual way, but if Matthew Mcconaughey makes a come back as a main character in season 3 im going to be ecstatic because he was GREAT in season 1.

Well that will prob never happen, an off-shoot of season one at this point. I agree that it was perfection in comparison. Two characters, very developed and interesting script between them. Adding 3-4 people seems desperate like they have done. Funny how Matthew M and Woody are actually in on the second seasons writing/ directing.
I do like that Vince is on the edge, loosing it all gives him some depth. He seems to love his wife and they seem like a good team. That is refreshing.
I go back to LA just being so cliche and who cares about those people or their bs crimes. That place should fall into the sea but that is just me. Lol

I read an interview from last year where Mcconaughey said he would be open to doing "more" as long as he doesnt have to sign up for consecutive seasons...but that was last year so idk if he still feels the same way....but really, I just dont know where the series is going to go from here..it needs a complete overhaul ...idk what Nick pizzolato plans to do with season 3 but there a FEW ways to get this series back on its feet and ONE of them is Matthew Mchhonahey..his popularity ALONE could make all the difference in people deciding to ditch true detective or keep watching into next season..also bringing back Cary Fukunaga as director might have a similar effect. ....anyway, there was one line in episode 3 or 4 where Vince Vaughn said something like "this all feels like papier mache" ..that kind of sums up season 2, IMO.



but then again, there's still two more episodes so maybe it'll end with a cliff hanger which will make people look forward (somewhat) to season 3.

I haven't started watching this season yet. I quickly looked over at the first episode though. Are the two detectives from the first season gone? I was interested in seeing those again, but if it's just something completely different I might not watch it at all.

yeah there's an all new cast of characters, new setting, and new story. The first 5 episodes really arent very good but its just now starting to pick up the pace and im hoping the last two episodes are going to tie everything together.

7th episode tonight....hopefully it will tie up some loose ends...my theory is that the missing girl they found at the "wild" party is the missing puzzle piece and knows what happened to Caspere...but only time will tell.

Seriously, this new series is making my head hurt - in a positive, can't get off my seat and can't get my eyes off the television sort of way. I'm still on the first season, though. I started watching it when I subscribed to HBO GO. :thinking::thinking::thinking:

alrigt well episode 7 was another disappointment...i'd go into detail but it doesnt even seem worth it.


overall season 2 has been terrible compared to season 1....I just keep thinking about how the general theme of season 1 reminded me SOMEWHAT of The horror at red hook by H.P. Lovecraft and I just wish that season 2 had kept with that same vibe.....oh well...hopefully season 3 will take True Detective back to its roots but idk....it just seems like the best idea at this point.....and hopefully Cary Fukunaga will return.
