What do I say to make a psychiatrist appointment?

Yes you could e-mail. Or you can call and will probably end up leaving a message on the answering machine. Then they will call you back and you can say you need someone to talk to about anxiety or whatever the problem may be. Just let the conversation flow. Try to relax and answer their questions.

I always dread calling doctor's offices. Always nervous at first but then it gets better. Always wondered why it was so hard for me.

I'm so socially inept, someone help me please? :(
I've been putting off making a single phone call to a psychiatrist for weeks now. Something I need to do every time I call somewhere is rehearse in my head how the conversation may go. Could anyone tell me what kind of questions they may ask and what should I say when they first pick up the phone? I know it seems crazy but I don't want to look stupid and like to be prepared. Thank you.

Don't feel ashamed or crazy, I also avoid phone calls to a very unhealthy extent and I know how you feel...

Anyways, do you want to make an appointment? After they pick up, you could say "Hello, I would like to schedule an appointment with the psychiatrist". They will ask your name and tell you when they will be available. This is essentially what they need, your name and to know when you will be coming, anything else can be done when you are there so they usually don't bother through the phone. If they work with your medical insurance company they may ask stuff related to your plan, so you might want to have at hand info about it. They may ask about your symptoms, if it's the case just give a quick summary, they are just making sure you are trying to see the right doctor.

Even if they ask about things you were not expecting, just keep in mind that the purpose of the call is to make an appointment. It doesn't matter how it goes, if by the end of it you have an appointment scheduled, then it was a success. The person receiving the call is there to help you and make sure you get what you want, they won't be mad or annoyed if you are polite, so take your time. You can ask anything you want too, by the way...

I hope this helps...
