Hey, I'm just curious. Please answer the above question assuming that you are not experiancing insomnia due to pesky, redundant thoughts.

um... the easy answer is that i don't sleep.
which gets really old when all you want to do is be done with a day.
But i haven not been able to sleep a day without my sleeping pill/tranquilizer since the middle of April when i got out of jail.
It bothers me just cuz i'm totally dependant on the drug now, and now it doesn't even make me sleepy (though it is still at least allowing me to go and stay asleep)

but to answer your question, on the nights that i don't take the drug, i pretty much do something very mundane until i realize i'm sleepy. That is, i'll play an online game, or read a book, or write. The moment i think i'm even a little sleepy, i jump into bed, and depending on the mooc i'm in, i'll either make it completly quiety, or i'll turn on the tv for background noise.

it sucks when sleep is illusive. I'm sorry.

I hope that people will check in and give you better feed-back--- like people that haven't had to deal with insomnia for years (i had flare-ups before last April).

good luck!

If you're having trouble sleeping try this;

Lay still, then being aware of sensations in your body; your breath, heartbeat, temperature, any aches/pains etc. If you notice thoughts, worries coming up bring your attention back to your body each time. Keep your attention focused here til you fall asleep...

For me strenuous exercise knocks me right out. I just have to do it once during the day and by night time I'll be asleep pretty easily.

Reading a book works a treat, i sometimes can't finish a chapter because i drop off to sleep. Getting plenty of fresh air and excercise during the day helps a lot. I find that staying indoors all day makes it hard for me to sleep.

I suffer.
Usually, I just lie there and hope. If I'm desperate, I read (which I do before trying to sleep in the first place), but turning on the light is painful. Sometimes, I get up and walk around so I can sort of have a fresh start. And I usually take benedril (not sure how to spell it), which is good for my allergies, anyway, so I have an excuse. But sometimes I get so I have to take it every night, which is not good at all.

When I can't sleep, which happens from time to time, I just listen to the radio and it always helps me go to sleep.

I try lots of things...reading, getting a cammomile tea or a green tea, or if I'm thinking about something, I'll just get out a notebook and start writing about it until my hand stops, that's really good for just clearing your mind.
