What do you do when you're depressed and don't know why?

You ever just have a time when you're just fine for the beginning of the day, but all of the sudden, you're just radiating negetive energy. You're not sad enough to cry, but you feel something that's not quite right?

It just happens out of the blue (atleast for me), that I have these feeling and don't even know why. Sure I have a lot of things on my plate, but that's not entirely why I'm feeling the way I'm feeling.

Anybody else have had this happen to them or even had a way to prevent or deal with this problem?

Yes. This happens to me all the time. Sometimes I have to think and retrace my thoughts back to when my moods changed. Then I find out my awful mood stemmed from something small and stupid. So sometimes it helps to find out what started it...if possible.

Yes, I have. One thing I'd suggest is exercise, exercise and more exercise. I've read a lot of studies that say exercising regularly helps elevate your mood. I can personally attest to that because I feel good emotionally after a good workout. You don't have to do anything drastic like run a marathon but even a 15-30 minute walk helps.

I don't know if that's a reply you were looking for but I hope things go well for you regardless.

I guess with my problem, it's linked to the conversation I had with my boyfriend this morning because we got on the topic about religion (which seems to happen on every Sunday now), but it led to the discussion of what'll happen during 2012.

I just got to thinking, and started having sort of images if there were a movie based on my life (weird but I have a weird imagination that goes everywhere because I have ADHD)

The problem is, I had very bad images about me being alone which is typical for me; I just call them bad day dreams which, unfortunatly, are the norm for me. What kind of spread these thoughts all day was this song which seems nice. I mean I love the song, it's just, put together with my thoughts kinda left me to what I'm feeling right now.

Well I pace to music in order to think every day which does make me feel better in a way but it only lasts so long.

i get suddenly depressed a lot for seemingly no reason. i try not to think about why im depressed, cause that usually causes me to completely spiral down into a pit of self-loathing, uncontrollable crying, and all that...
so i watch comedy central to distract myself (ive been told that humor is the way i cope with stuff), play video games (get me focused on something else), or just sleep

Yeah, it happens to me a lot too. I try to distract myself but sometimes I can't get rid of this feeling no matter what I do.

Who's to say what will happen?. Like a few other years (eg 2000), there is the "doomsday" stuff doing the rounds, but just like those years, nothing might happen (no planet X/Nibiru changing Earth's tilt, no major tsunami, no triggering of many volcanos, no "ice-age", no wiping out of 2/3rds of world's population, ...). A week or so ago i was delving into all that stuff, & was starting to believe it (& worry about slightly), but since then i have realized that almost of it is rubbish. People are making false videos/etc, spreading rumours ... WHO KNOWS WHY. So i wouldn't worry about anything just yet. So my current belief is that mankind will continue in 2012, to go through the "spiritual transformation" that began in 2011. As to whether this will be accompanied by a physical catastrophe is anyone's guess. Perhaps we might just get some more-severe solar flares? Or earth's magnetic field might be affected by the crossing of Milky-Way's equator? Another words, it might be basically just "more of the same" of what we've been getting in the last few years, perhaps a little more intense, perhaps not.

Just like staying in the same physical location, whilst depressed, having a song that keeps playing in mind can also serve to keep the depression going (been there done that). It seems to keep the memories of experiencing the depression in the forefront of your mind (ie the exact same sensory keeps triggering the exact same depressed feelings)

I come home and watch stand up comedy, pet my cat... Clean... Sometimes I'll shower, stretch, massage my sore arches, maybe pour a drink, or have a cup of tea...

I try to remember that it's just a mood, or bad day, it'll pass. I might take something for anxiety, like some GABA & theanine, to help give a boost up & out of it.

Maybe call my best friend and rant awhile...

If at work... A bad mood can get you fired at a job like mine. So, you have to learn to get a grip, or you will end up in your supervisors office, guaranteed. GABA & theanine are definitely needed in that situation, sometimes a quick break.

As for the supposed 2012 apocalypse...

Nevermind the Apocalypse: Earliest Mayan Calendar Found - Yahoo! News
Excerpt->
The hieroglyphs, painted in black and red, along with a colorful mural of a king and his mysterious attendants, seem to have been a sort of handy reference chart for court scribes in A.D. 800 — the astronomers and mathematicians of their day. Contrary to popular myth, this calendar isn't a countdown to the end of the world in December 2012, the study researchers said.

"The Mayan calendar is going to keep going for billions, trillions, octillions of years into the future," said archaeologist David Stuart of the University of Texas, who worked to decipher the glyphs. "Numbers we can't even wrap our heads around."

i've found that sex is really good for stress and depression

it is my understanding that the Mayans thought so, too

This doesn't happen all too often to me (because usually I'm well aware of why I'm depressed or in some other foul mood), but the same techniques apply. I tend to find something that will distract me from however I'm feeling: read a book, watch something, write, talk to people, go for a walk, etc.

Yes, It happens when I start thinking too much. In that case, if there's someone I can talk to, I talk about it. That usually helps me.

I used to do something else-- but now I just sleep.
Life seems much less harsh when you're dreaming; even if you're constantly fighting off zombies and getting murdered.

odd, I have a lot of zombie apocalypse dreams... Hmmmm...

Dream Moods Dictionary: Words That Begin With Z
Zombie

To see or dream that you are a zombie suggests that you are physically and/or emotionally detached from people and situations that are currently surrounding you. You are feeling out of touch. Alternatively, a zombie means that you are feeling dead inside. You are just going through the motions of daily living.

To dream that you are attacked by zombies indicate that you are feeling overwhelmed by forces beyond your control. You are under tremendous stress in your waking life. Alternatively, the dream represents your fears of being helpless and overpowered.
-Yeah, that pretty much sums it up for me...
