What does YOUR boredom get you to do? What have YOU learnt from your boredom?

Supposedly there are lessons to be learnt here. I for one am curious what they could be.

And do YOU know if boredom is a feeling, a state of affairs, or both, or sth else altogether?

Do tell...

I don't know what boredom is, exactly. I'd say, a feeling. But only because that's how I've commonly associated boredom - with feeling bored.

Sorry, if I just took this threads title. Ah just felt it'd be easier answer those questions indiividually. Rather than make one rambling response.

What does YOUR boredom get you to do?

Mope about, spending too much time on my computer. Feel depressed about my life situation. Drink. Swear. And, if I'm not in a dour mood, normally I get creative or do a bit of exercise.

What have YOU learnt from your boredom?

That I can't stand to being idle and sitting about for long periods of time, unless of course, I've got something to read. Or it's necessary, like traveling somewhere.

Oh, and that it's much better being bored on yer own company, than in company of others. Particularly family. Since that usually tends to affects everyone else's mood. Though, that might just be me? :idontknow:

Boredom usually occurs when I lose interest in my surroundings and any potential activities. I hate boredom. Usually when I'm bored, I will either take a nap (if I have time to waste), surf the Web, watch youtube videos, or watch tv. I find that doing those activities eases the boerdom to some extent. Something else I'll do when I get bored is I'll put a reminder in my head that my boredom will not last forever. Usually if I spend too much time in the house, I'll easily get bored due to the lack of constant activity.

If I got out the house more, I wouldn't spend so much time being bored.

To answer your question, I think boredom is just a feeling, that occurs due to constant inactivity.

I'm suffering from boredom at my partner's place. I realise that its my choice and that I hadn't prepared myself each time I go over. I've planted a lot of plants in pots - cleaned and decorated the place, I have my laptop and the internet and we have a huge amount of things we can watch movies and such.

I realise that I cannot rely on him to entertain me. He is just going to be in his shell doing his own things online.

When I was at home - I didn't really get bored. I think with an anxiety disorder - I just write about things and then go all out and try to do them. I find it hard to even sleep like that. I'm always running about doing things. Just when I am over his place - there is always things I have missed to bring or what ever and so I get bored.

And it is very insightful, though. IT tells me that I have to speak up to my partner when I'm ready and not from a bad vibe, that I get disappointed when he is non-interactive - as it feels like I'm not even there.

So I think boredom can arise from a state of disappointed expectations and negatively thinking of things as unsuccessful if you try plus lack of things to do activities with and even energy.

I am bored out of my mind and it sucks.:kickingmyself: I'm bored at work. I'm bored at home. I'm bored because I don't really do anything fun. I'm bored because I don't go out. I'm bored because my mind is going to waste. Ugh. I always have things I need to do, but it's hard to force myself to do them when I'm bored as hell and just want some amusement.

My boredom (& restlessness) has for the last several years made me play tetris for hours each day (for up to ~3 hrs in a session). It's sth repetitive, settles my nerves, and is a mental diversion. It makes me feel okay. Usually i keep playing till i've "had my fix", or until i'm getting tired of it. I guess it's termed "gaming".

I play Tetris on my phone sometimes. I actually beat the game - i.e. the last level in terms of speed. You can keep going; it just won't get any faster. I actually wore out a stylus pretty quick playing too much Tetris, lol. Classic. Will never get old.

Cool story bro:
I was in a store, buying a bunch of random things once. The cashier was trying to fit everything into the bag and I said "Ah, just shove it all in there." He says "Well I don't wanna crush your masks." (Dust masks.) So I said "Well you can stick them inside the hangers." He says "Oh yeah...I bet you're good at Tetris." I laughed. At the time, I hadn't got into phone Tetris yet, so it had been years. I said "Well, I used to be. I haven't played in awhile."

My highest score on my current tetris (falling bricks) is 2567 lines (of course is at maximum speed, but levels still increase)

It's the ol' "dust masks" story again, he he. I still can't work out how he knew you played tetris. And hangers = coat hangers?. Why the dust masks??

My boredom sometimes gets me to play "doom metal". So i switch off the radio (always playing classical/orchestral music), and switch to this higher-energy music. It makes me feel better, less bored/restless/etc. Currently i'm playing band Electric Wizard (Dopethrone), which feels quite psychedelic also. And i'm liking it!. Goodbye boredom, hello doom :D

Well, I found a way to pack one thing inside another, so I guess he was implying that Tetris has real world applications, lol. And I did say random things. Yes, coat hangers. And dust masks for keeping dust out of my face while cleaning and scooping cat litter.

And on the subject of Tetris and real world applications...go to YouTube and search for "Japanese human Tetris game.":giggle:

I'm never really bored. Only when I'm waiting for something. Otherwise, I have plenty of things I can and want to do.
