What is wrong?

Hi all I am new here.

I am 38, active, good living with a long term girlfriend (whom I met online). Not all good though. When my social-anxiety kicks-in, it all spoils it for me :(

I have huge anxiety when I am in a business-meetings or 1-to-1 conversations with women. The weird thing is, NOT every-time my anxiety is disastrous. Sometimes if I start a conversation good then the rest of it goes very smoothly. It’s just that rarely I start it good. Prior to opening my mouth I can feel warmth on my chest+neck and my heart starts pounding faster. When ever this happens words come out of my mouth not completed and very fast. I can see people reactions and I am sick of this! Suddenly very silenced room!

I can be very sociable with my daily work friends. My work colleagues are mostly men though and because of this sometimes I try to have social interactions with women and half of the time same anxiety happens. I have no problems though with my girlfriends lady friends. When ever they are around we always have excellent social time.

I had these issues since very young age. Do you guys think I need treatment? or maybe drugs? Is there any drugs that are safe to use while working? (I have no drugs policy at work). Like I said I force myself to interact with women and it helps but the progression is very slow and sometimes painful especially business meetings. Thankfully the later only happens few times a year.

Any recommended treatment programs around London?

Thank You for reading.

You want to know how I got these scars?
Going by what information you've given, CBT could benefit you.

A word if advice though. Don't expect a therapist to 'fix' you.
The therapist can give you the tools to use to improve your problem, but it is you who must put those tools into use.
Good luck :)

What herbs would you recommend?

There are many, MANY wonderful herbs that can aid with our anxiety and depression also, although from what you shared in your first post, you seem to be only suffering from anxiety. But usually depression and anxiety go in hand.

Anyways, the herbs I recommend to you are St. John's Wort(like EarthCircle first suggested to you), Panax(Korean or Red) Ginseng(I take the extract which tastes REALLY AWFUL but it also comes in easy-to-swallow capsules), and 5-HTP, which is a nutrient that tremendously helps increase serotonin(a hormone that significantly contributes to feeling good or happy or joyful or any positive feeling).

Please, give these herbs a shot! However, if you do decide to take these type of herbs(the ones affecting your mental state), you gotta taper off from any antidepressants you may be taking(although I believe you said you do not take any right now and you shouldn't, imo).
The reason being is because there WILL be horrific interactions if taken together. That is why I think you should stay FAR away from those damn antidepressants. You can't even stop cold turkey without being in serious trouble. But with herbs, you can stop whenever you want because they are NATURAL, the way God, Budda, Mother Nature, or whatever higher power you believe in had intended it to be. To me, perscription drugs are nothing more than synthetic copies of herbs in the most perverse, modified state of being known to man.

Good luck! And keep us posted!

The Kira brand of Saint Johns Wort. I used to take that, and it seemed to help. But one has to be careful to get the dose right.

Oh I hear nothing but good things about the power of this herb. I wanted to get that but it was too freaking expensive. So I settled for 5-HTP, which is surely keeping me sane at least. Its keeping me from laying in bed from sun up to sun down. But I am still struggling with negative thoughts from time to time. So I will probably increase the doseage from one capsule to two daily next month as recomeended on the bottle itself.

And yeah, like with any supplement, herbs, or even prescription drugs you gotta get that doseage right. Or things can very, VERY detrimental.

Thank You. I will try these but need to research so they do not cause any problems with my work in-case there is a drugs-test . I have never taken any medicines or herbs for my anxiety before hence my knowledge is not great.

I have no depression. If I do then I am not aware of it and maybe like you suggested they are linked :) . Its just that anxiety kicks in sometimes and its an awful feeling. When anxiety is not there I am very cheerful and happy :) .
