What kinds of jobs do people with SA have?

Being newly without a job, and due to finding out recently that my husband and I are expecting, I can no longer work in the animal care field as it is too physical and dangerous. So I have to find something completely different. Hoping for something not too stressful or physical, but having bad SA almost every job is stressful to me. So it got me wondering, what kind of jobs do other people with SA have? I just can't hold down retail or restaurant jobs, the anxiety is too much for me. Once I actually worked at Walmart as a cashier...in December. What a horrible idea that was! I barely lasted a month.

So tell me what you all do for a living :)

I work at home as a transcriptionist. You basically just listen to audio and type out what the speakers are saying (and noises sometimes). It's not really steady work, but if you join enough companies you should be able to have enough work to work full-time if you wanted. (I could be making more, but I'm kinda lazy...)

To get the job (for most companies) you just have to do a sample audio and type out what you hear. You don't have to interview or anything. You have to have a PayPal account to get paid though. You can work as much or as little as you want as long as there is work available.

If nothing else, it's a decent job to have to make some money while you look for a steady job. Also nice to work in pajamas haha

Wow that sounds nice! I'd like to check that out! If I get a part time job it would be nice to be able to make a little more money. Thanks for sharing!

Here are the application pages for the companies I work for:

There are, of course, other companies, but those are what I have experience with and know are legit companies.

I tried it out on another site doing a "practice run" and it looks like I totally suck at it. Figures. :/ I don't think there are any "online jobs" I can do, or aren't scams.
I don't know what kind of job to look for... I even looked at a library job which sounded great except when I read the line "Skill in customer relations including dealing with difficult patrons and volatile situations." No way. And physical aspect of having to push a 200 lb cart or lift 50 lbs...no go with the pregnancy. :( Without an animal job I dunno what I can do...

hmm =/
data entry perhaps? maybe an office job filing paperwork or something? most good jobs I can think of, however, would entail some sort of education beyond high school, and I don't know your background.

Ironically I do have colleges degrees (My BS in Zoology again is a bit worthless at the moment) and my other degree allows me to be a surgical technologist, a stupid mistake of a choice when I was really young. So yeah...two worthless pieces of paper. Go college.

You want to know how I got these scars?
I'm a 'SAL'.
It seems my job is to 'suck at life' :)

Hey... At least I'm good at it lol

Congratulations! :applause:

I'm a cleaner, but I recently tried to get into the traffic control field. I have had moderate luck but it all interferes too much with my university so I'm not sure what to do.

Good luck finding a suitable job for yourself! Remember that when you do get a job you may have to leave in around seven months to prepare for the birth of your baby, so anything you get will be short term. That may help you with choosing something - knowing it's not going to be forever. :)

I wish... The only thing left for me to do at a vet clinic is be a receptionist, which scares the crap out of me. There's nothing I hate more than customer service.

I'm pretty sure I just got shot down for a Teacher Assistant job for preschoolers. I love kids, especially that young. It would have literally been the perfect job for me in terms of time, especially it following the school year and my due month being June. *sigh* If only this lady knew what I have gone through lately... But in this day and age people aren't given a chance unless they have all the experience you're looking for. And not pregnant.

Now I really don't know what to do. That was a giant shred of hope I was clinging to and that's probably gone. I figure I'm not being remotely considered because the lady reposted the position yesterday back on Craigslist.

Anyone else want to share their job with me?

A job in which they stop making excuses and start applying themselves even if they are suffering on the inside because they know that is the only way to work up the ladder. That is the only way you are going to obtain leverage for yourself for your future endeavors.

This. Just because you have SA, it doesn't mean you're special. If someone without SA can do a job without having problems, so can you. You're just like everyone else.

Maybe you can try being a writer or blogger. Or maybe a librarian.
If your good with your hands maybe you could make money by creating art, jewelry, pottery, clothing and others things to sell online at Etsy.com

It may be too difficult for someone to do a job properly if they are suffering on the inside. Some people's SA is more severe than others. Some people with SA are actually Agoraphobics and Agoraphobics can't just will themselves out of being agoraphobic, if they could then they would not be agoraphobic in the first place. A person with severe SA can get better but it may take years of therapy. It's unfair to accuse a person who may suffer from extreme anxiety of "making excuses" and "not applying themselves".

Disagree. Things are Not as simple as that in the real world.

Some personalities are not going to be a match for some work environments...

It comes down to personality.

For instance a reserved person may well be bullied and struggle in a department of overly confident narcissists...

Even though it's not right and you would hope management will step in, often,
Culturally people struggle to adapt. It happens all the time.

In those situations it is the bullies that should be talked to and defused, often that doesn't happen, because of ego,

So again, all depends on the situation.

I speak from experience. Someone who has gone through agoraphobia, social PHOBIA (not anxiety). I have cried in the bathrooms, I have cried in front of people, I have ran out of classrooms with all eyes on me, I have blundered, made embarrassing mistakes in front of people, stuttered, shaken (lots), have had lots of people gossip about me, I can go on and on.

You are not going to progress until you push yourself and allow yourself to endure the feelings of crisis, shame, hysterics that is part of having social phobia. Irrational as social phobia may be, I understand the intensity of the feelings. Progression will not start until you allow yourself to (excuse my language but) eat shit.

I try to walk the fine line of how far can I push it without pannicking and leaving (then regressing). I take baby steps forward and giant leaps backward. Fighting my fears is a bit like playing snakes and ladders with really long snakes and little ladders.

...but you're probably right.

You're doing it. Just keep trying. It will not be easy for us. I think we just have to keep on trying over and over until we find that niche, that niche being a company that has good leadership & coworkers so you feel supported (not neglected/bullied). It might take years, but that is not an excuse to lay around and do nothing until we find it.
