So most of the doctors around here( I live in Manchester in the UK) & even my psychiatrist is either refusing to prescribe benzos or refusing to increase my dose ( I'm prescribed 5mg of diazepam twice a day only!). So besides benzos which medication ( excluding drugs like opiates/cannabis/cocaine,etc) makes you the most sedated/stoned & high?? I'll describe how I feel everyday well most days: I'm restless, on edge, agitated, nervous(I'm a nervous wreck), anxious, mentally/emotionally unstable, uptight, socially awkward. I suffer from social anxiety, insomnia ( can't sleep at all),GAD & severe depression. So I need a medication to relax muscles(muscle relaxer),to make me feel calm, relaxed,to help me loosen up & to sedate me. Which medication is the best/most effective besides benzos?? Thanks
PS: I meant "Lyrica" as option number 9 not Lyrics

What about beer? (contains hops which is a very good general nervous system relaxant). I usually have a can of beer in the morning, to get my anxiety down & mood right.
(that is, in addition to my meds - clonazepam, paroxetine (SSRI), risperidone)

Im on Amitriptyline now for insomnia and depression. It does make me sleepy, but I cant say it does much for my mood or anxiety.

Are you sure alcohol is a good idea, though?
It's not everyone's cup of tea. I try to avoid spirits (vodka/etc) if i can. Same with beer. It's easy to overdo it. And it doesn't work as good if you have it all the time. Also have too much and it becomes a depressant. Some drugs are like that, where they say you have to "cycle" it on & off (take it, have a break from it, take it again).

I think he might've been wondering because youre on different meds also and possible interactions. Though I wont lie, if Im out at a dinner or some kinda event socializing and they have alcohol, you best believe Im gonna have some. Nothing gets my anxiety up more than having to sit across a table from someone two feet away and talk to them about nothing.

Yeah alcohol loosens me up but like I told the doctor I said if he refuses to prescribe or to increase my dose of diazepam/xanax then I'll be drinking alcohol everyday or every 2 days. But that would make me an alcoholic. And like you said alcohol is a depressent & I have severe depression so it won't help my depression. Besides I'm currently taking a benzo ( Diazepam) I'm only prescribed a low dose but you can't drink alcohol & take benzos at the same time it's a dangerous interaction so you have to choose which one is more beneficial/sedating

What

Benzos are pretty much the only thing listed here that will make you feel 'stoned' or 'high'. They are also the most quick acting, working within minutes rather than achieving an anxiolytic over time. The problem with benzos is that they're addictive, and tolerance builds really quickly. It's better to take them as needed if you can get a handle on it. In my opinion they shouldn't be taken everyday. I've made that mistake and benzo withdrawal is absolute hell on earth. You don't want to be addicted to benzos, you will rely on them to function and that is no good. You said if you aren't given benzos you'll switch to alcohol, so that isn't really a good sign. Gabapentin and Lyrica do somewhat diminish anxiety for me and make me feel like I'm on something, but only if used in higher doses and infrequently, and certainly not as much as benzos.

You didn't mention Ambien, which I think is very good for sleep although not really for relaxation per se. As for Nardil, which appears on your list, I would say that that is a good drug for staying awake.

I don't know about liquid magnesium per se, but I have found that 1 or 2 tablets of Magnesium Citrate can help with relaxation a bit. I don't take them every day though because the effect becomes unnoticeable and over time I just feel "slower and dumber" than usual, lol. A couple times per week when I can tell my mood is acting up--anger is a problem for me--and it does legitimately help.

I agree benzos are probably the most effective is Lyrica a sedative/muscle relaxer?? Does it get you stoned/high?? If so at what doses??
